New Kid In Town

Some here know we lost Kimmiq last Wednesday.
She was with us 14 years & 10 months.
Longest run from a Wolf Hybrid we have ever seen - most don't make 12.
That pretty much devastated my Lady, myself and Ila.

A very good buddy heard the news and called me to strongly suggest I look at a male pup he knew of.
Arctic Wolf / Shiloh Shepherd / East German Shepherd.
White as snow.
11 weeks old.

Too damned sudden was my initial response.
But my Lady told me You could look for 10 years to find another one that checks off all of those boxes without finding one.
Yep.

Went for a look.
Little bugger separated from the pack, ran immediately up to me, rubbing against me and making little crooning noises.
I said I hope this is the male we talked about.
She replied He has never acted that way around anyone.
Instant heart melt.
Looked at my Lady, she was grinning and nodding.
OK then...

The 1.5 hour ride home was entirely uneventful. Calm the whole way.
Meeting Ila was a little dicey at first, but within 15 minutes they were playing together!

Being an outside pup all of his life, he was somewhat odorous.
Into the bathtub. Again, calm cool and collected. No issues.
His color went even more white following drying out.

First night went smooth.
No crying / whimpering at all.
Let himself out onto the deck attached to our bedroom to do his middle of the night business instead of in the house. Cool.

He now follows me everywhere, and is currently wrapped around my feet and smiling at me.
Never bonded with one quite so fast before.
Happiest I have been in a very long time!

My Lady asked what I was going to name him.
I asked her what is my Inuvialuktun name?
Taniq Amaruq.
We will share my name. He is TANIQ (White Man).

Getting to know Ila:

He actually growled a little at her initially, but that faded out rather quickly.
He is now 12 week old and weighs 40 pounds.
Is not going to be a small one by any means!

He has firmly captured my heart, and those of Linda's and Ila's.
This apparently was meant to be...

More pictures as he develops...

Cheers,
One Happy Nog

First visit to the Vet today for his first shots.
Never had one so calm through that process. Amazing.

First 2 Adult Teeth (Lower front incisors) have sprung as will soon the rest.

Fun & Games!

Had to wait for Taniq's shots before I could take him out of the yard. There is a new and extremely virulent strain of Parvo Virus circulating in BC (and specifically the Island) that I was not going to risk any chance of exposure to. Even now he is still somewhat vulnerable, so I must be very cautious as to where we can go.

That said yesterday was his first ever walk with me & Ila. He did so well I was simply blown away. Slack leash the entire way, and in heel position for most of it. 2 miles & change. I was bursting with pride and happiness when we came back though the front door and my Lady said Well I can see just how well that went! Yep!

This new Lad continues to amaze. Certainly bodes well for our future together.

Cheers
