Well at long last there is going to be a new gas barge for False Creek. Opening date according to the retailer is going to be in May sometime. They're gutting the old barge now. Installation of lines, pumps, tanks, et al. are going to be start next week. I asked the guy if it was going to be a major and they said no, it was going to be an independent.

We can only hope the prices are reasonable.

Yep! Same place. We'll see what the new crooks are like....probably the same as the old.

Still slandering the former owners?

Typical of the chronic whiner we all know you to be-still mewing even after the Manager of the old place came on here and cleaned your clock/put you in your place/told you to Put Up or Shut Up and you slunk off into the weeds as per your SOP.

Long past time for you to Grow Up Andrew.

I heard from informed sources that they have approval to proceed, but, that there are still environmental issues to deal with. In Vancouver......that could mean time. Hope its soon.
The operator has the right to make a living. Its not easy running a seasonal business. Everyone who operates a boat knows that its a luxury and costs are high. But its worth every dollar I spend on it........

I glad there is a new one going in it's usually the other way when they're taking them out, glad to see this guy is bucking the trend, were else do you get your gas, is there any left in coal harbor

Hahaha! Carl, Carl, Carl....I recall that thread, it wasn't on this board and it was deleted shortly after the retailer and employees got on there and turned it into a sh*t show. Let's just say that the Oil Company wasn't impressed. It's also pretty convenient that you leave out the details of what that thread was about and the fact that you advocate a total ripoff and hide that assertion behind the word "profit".

For the record, at current pump rates, the fuel would cost $1.537 plus taxes a litre for marked mid grade at his barge right now...despite the fact that competitors were substantially cheaper and did not have their tanks on land as he did.. Well, the consumers made their voices heard there for years, and I clearly recall that being most everyone's sentiment.

Anyways, I took my business elsewhere for years as did anyone else in the Creek....it was more than worth the fuel burn to Coal Harbour on bigger volumes and that wasn't an insignificant amount of money. I encouraged all to do the same and probably saved a few people more than a few dollars and yet you call that slanderous?

LOL LOL LOL!

We'll agree that we disagreed on that issue....among others!!!!

Respectfully,

FM.

There is no chance of a fuel facility opening in False Creek. According to FCHA it is not going to happen. The hoops required to be jumped through would make it a process that lasts many years.

Really busterbrown? There's quite a bit of activity going on down at the old barge right now.....they're renovating and I've seen quite a bit of progress there...

Would the bank loan them the money if they didn't have their ducks in a row?

I just phoned the False Creek Harbour Authority and the guy who answered had NFC-I mean he was seriously out of touch.

He claimed the old barge was closed 3 years ago and there were rumours about a new place-then he said they were opening in May.

AFAICT from the website this organisation doesn't have any say at all in the regulation of gas barges-they are not in any way a regulatory body (except maybe parking around the F&C shack).

I can confirm that the barge will be open for business in the next month or two.
I work for the Parks Board and have worked on this project.
The fuel tanks and lines are going in soon, the float to the barge is being modified to suite the new fuel lines.

I've only had my boat in Vancouver for a couple years so I never filled up at the old False Creek barge and have had to run around to Coal Harbour everytime I need fuel. Was there a big price difference between the two barges? 5, 10, 20 cents per litre?

While I was fueling up at Coal Harbour last week I was asking one of the guys working the barge why the False Creek fuel barge closed down and for what it's worth he said that volume (lack of) the the issue. This is not surprising at all but I then asked at what price would they need to charge to make it worthwhile. He said at even $3.00 per litre they will not survive long term. Now, these are the words of a guy who pumps gas for a Chevron barge and we were just shooting the **** but I'd like to hear if anyone knows the numbers behind fuel barges and what they need to survive.

In terms of volume the guy said that the Coal Harbour barge moves about 50 million litres of fuel per year (98% diesel for tugs, etc) whereas False Creek never did more than 2-3 million litres per year and that was/is the biggest reason that False Creek can not make it. Would like to hear if anyone has any fact-based information on this subject. Not really looking for those eager to rant on one side of another without some thought. thanks in advance
