New fishing outerwear

What is everyone rocking for outerwear for out on the 'chuck these days? I am headed up to port hardy next weekend, and realized I need to update my fishing "wardrobe" so to speak for some offshore fishing. Right now I am currently looking at flotation jackets, waterproof overalls style pants, waterproof sweater, rubber boots etc.

I am used to fishing inshore in a little tin boat in warm weather, so I've never had to get this stuff before. Any tips appreciated!

yup helly hansen light gear with yer own fleece or wool combo underneath, take a toque, gum boots, and a self inflate pfd. only counts as a pfd if yer wairing it.

Thanks for the replies everyone! So you guys (and gals!) recommend pfd's (I'll look into those self inflating ones) over flotation jackets?

YES. but get the self inflating. you cant pull the release if yer out, cuzz of a bonk on the melon.

go to marks work warehaouse and get a stanfield wool sweater they are the best every commercial fisherman wears one

I'll definitely make a trip to marks work to check those out. I'm currently in Calgary, this is where I'll be buying all my gear so hopefully I can find all this stuff. I'll also make a trip to my local sportchek, they are a dealer of HH stuff, so hopefully they will have some of their rain gear in stock. I know they also deal under armour products, which has a line of rain gear. They are slightly cheaper than the HH products, but seem to get really good reviews. Completely waterproof, yet still breathable.

Any recommendatons for inflatable PFD's? I know my local wholesale has some stocked, not sure exactly which models because I never gave them a really good look. Online I've been looking at the mustang models with the HIT and M.I.T auto-inflators.

Helly Impertech is my personal choice......Some pretty cool outer gear being tested in the lodge industry ..build bye fisherman for fisherman ..should be available for 2012..

Guess I'll have to check that out in 2012, doesn't really help me now though :p

Helly have seperate work and leisure distribution and the Impertech product is in the work line so you would do better looking at a workwear store than a sports store. I love the armour line. It is designed for lobster fishermen and has a high tenacity nylon outer jacket and an Impertech inner jacket - the best of both worlds. If you get it shell out the extra $15 for the one with the neoprene storm cuff. Pioneer and Carhartt also have good pu product.
