new downriggers - pro packs or regulars?

what size boom do you guys fish, the telescoping 60" is what I've been eyeing.. What is the advantage of the pro packs as well? Just the plate with the two rod holders? Buying two new riggers and they sure aint cheap so want to get the best ones.

Cheers,
Nick

the 60 " seems like over kill to me as it hard to reach out that far if extended . You would have to run long release clips . Swivel bases are well worth the money and double rod holders would be nice. Craigs list often has riggers but brand new is better just for warranty which scotty really stands by. check if some of the new ones come with braided line that would be better than steel.

I like the 60" booms. Sure, they can be a bit of a pain to deal with when hooking up the gear, but I like the fact that it spreads them further apart and allows me to run a surface rod or 2 between them.

It also helps to keep the lines out of the prop and from tangling when making tight turns in current.

Don't worry about used and warranty issues, Scotty stands by their products for life.

I'd go with 60" if you don't mind spending a few bucks more, gives you a bit of flexibility (I've got 30"...works for me but if I did it again I'd get extendables).

I bought the 60" propacs with the swivel base when I geared up the new ride a couple of years ago. I really like them, and I was a old school rod holder guy.
The guys at Trotac went out of their way to give me a good price.
Three seasons now, and the only thing is to make sure the adjustment screws on the holders are TIGHT, right DAD?

I installed "Retro-Ease" on all three of my downriggers. They work on Scotty's as well: [:0]
"Brings the weight right to you so you can avoid leaning out or swinging the boom in to rerig. Fits all downriggers with booms up to 8' length"

scotty has the same sort of thing..
i made my own with some string and a caribener clip, works well :)
