Needlefish Hoochies with Mylar Insert

I'm rigging some needlefish hoochies for Bamfield/Port Alberni this summer. Any thoughts about which ones to try, how to rig them, how to fish them, and overall leader length? Does anyone fish needlefish hootchies?

Thanks

This one, plain white, army truck, pistachio. Plain glow(og55r). I hate the names, but too lazy to look up numbers I haven't memorized.
Some years the bait is tiny so you could trim. I like a swivel and one 3/0 hook on 60lb clear Big Game. Cheap. Put the hook on end of a flasher and wrap 3.5 times finish with a McMahon snap if you can afford them.

You'll find them with those. Also small spoons and octopus/cuttlefish/turd sizes and bait and metal jigs and mooching real squid.

get these well you can.. it's a gooder and no longer made

I had to slit them open a bit to get the inserts in and then ran a normal tandem 3/0 setup. Took a few tentacles off as well. These things killed around Gower last June. Oh I also cut out chunks of the head to make it shorter (extended the tentacles up). It was a bit of a surgery to be honest.

Grand Slam Bucktails make a custom insert for a local fishing store. Has the head of the micro GSB with the length of the needlefish. If you want to know more let me know. They are killer. Full size hoochie in pic as i don't have a needlefish hoochie nearby.

I have tried in the Gabriola fishery, as per Bob Myers and Dave Korsch, the needlefish hooch. Had success on black oil slick, and tiger prawn pattern. Bob liked the blue edged flasher.

tough to keep the original diameter in a needlefish hoochie with most skirts. the GSB insert is small enough that it keeps its slim profile.

pic shows normal hoochie with a needlefish GSB skirt and a needlefish hoochie with our "insert" as the skirt.

These were some I used on the west side when the all the fish were gorging on sand lance. Glad I stocked up on those great skirts years ago. I rig the same as Derby with the tandem red gamis

Thanks for the images guys. The green splatter back is NG142R. The white glow is NG55R. I have these. I ordered the G26LBD tubber suggested.

Cool images Derby and Aces. Any idea about what the numbers are for the ones I didn't mention?

PNT has quite a few to choose from; Here's the link. https://pacificnetandtwine.com/search?type=product&q=needlefish

Aces dark one might be this but I don't see it in N size there is a 104 on the North Pacific page that looks similar
One of his others is pistachio

The other one (dark blue with pink glow stripe in his pic) is a P-66 which is a very old school needle fish hoochie - they don't work, but I have quite a few of them.

An old school high liner paid for his troller dragging a full spread of them in different sizes. Off Tofino I had great results using the cuttlefish size of that pattern
