need advice, do you think the sockeye will be in the Alberni Canal in early June?

The reason I ask is China Creek Campground doesn't have any moorage available from June 15 to July 16. Prime sockeye time of course!! But they do have moorage available up to June 14 and then again after July 15. If it was up to you would you try for sockeye in the June 7-14 range? or maybe try after the 16th of July? Thoughts, opinions??

Thanks in advance!

How about Poett Nook or MacTush? Other than that(and it would be a bit of a pain to pull the boat out every night), but there is good camping at Sproat Lake. Can you sleep on your boat?

Short answer, yes, I think there will be fish there at that time. But then, what do I know? It's a crap shoot.

Looking back at my records and those of my friends, it shows that the really good sockeye fishing usually starts around the 15th of June and some times as early as the 12th. Before that it's usually hit and miss.

Thanks for the replys. Bruce Lee my boat is 18' so not great for sleeping on. Not sure what to do. Maybe I'll stay down at Seabeam in late June and try for some bigger fish.

Baddogg and Vetteman you are probably right. There will be fish there it's just a guessing game as to how many. Decisions, decisions!

My wife and I sleep on my boat and it's a bit smaller than yours. We just throw the hook out somewhere and we're good for the night. Our record is 4 nights not stepping onto land but that's pushing it. One night is great, two nights is okay, any more and you can tire of each others company real fast!

We camp at Macktush and are anxiously awaiting the socks as well, but got to agree with vetteman, pretty spotty before the 15th. There are fish, but they aren't schooling up and are hard to target. If you don't want to go to the Nook or Bamfield (quite a run back to sockeye country) I would recommend Macktush. Only problem, no moorage, but good enough ramp. Lots of people there pull their boats each day or as we do plant an anchor and moor off shore. Campground is reasonable and road is in good condition this spring. Just got graded last week. I would target the last week in June/first week in July for best. They will still be there in late July, but who knows what is happening with the commercials. Last year the fishing died right off about a week after they started up.

I have heard that some are getting limits in the canal...anyone hearing the same?
May sox would be amazing!
