Need a new VHF

So with some help from others, I have determined that the 2 year old VHF is hooped and that I will need a new one.

Can you guys recommend one that will work well and not break the bank? I think the wife has set a limit of $200, but like most things, it is easy to beg for forgivness after the fact.

Does any one have one kicking around that they would like to get rid of?

I think this is contagious ! , I also had a Uniden Solara , went to test everything today before heading for the West coast on Saturday and nothing on the radio ! , all fuses OK everything else on the power bar works , checked continuity of the wires and changed the connectors all OK , next stop another radio !!!!
Mine was 4 years old.

I have an Icom M422 which is a great radio.

The price tag on the box is $340, but don't let that scare you - you can get them around $200 or so. If you don't need a PA, they have another model which is pretty much the same thing.

My second choice would be Standard Horzion. I have a couple of the older radios and they perform wonderfully.

Shop around for prices. Google is your friend!

There is a Chandlery in Nanaimo which carries a lot of electronics. They are just south of London Drugs downtown. They have been very helpful to me in the past.

Just one word of advice: Don't buy cheap junk/no-name brands, your life may depend on it some day.

Don't know the actual model #, but I've got a couple of I-com hand-helds. (just under $200)
Use one at work everyday, and they work great. Waterproof and they even float.
The ability to move from boat to boat or even use on land is very handy to boot!
No, I don't work for I-com. Just highly recommend.
