navionic charts

I've seen one friend of mine had a chart on his computer, but I think it was software he had.

Take only what you need.

There are free marine charts offered by google, not sure of the link off the top of my head, but I'm sure if you look at google earth you'll find them there. There aren't as good as navonics but pretty good for free.

Can one view the navionic charts that are used in the fish finders on the computer

Yes you can. I happen to have owned both a Lowrance and Raymarine plotter. Lowrance provides a planning utility at no cost and will also include a card reader when you purchase some of their chart plotters at no cost as well. Raymarine's NavPlanner is also free if you own one of their plotters -- if you want to plot a course on your PC and transfer it to your chart plotter, you have to purchase the proprietary Raymarine card reader/writer to save your course to a blank memory card.
