Nanaimo Pirates Sale 2024

Dedication! It’s like anchoring up and sleeping on the boat day of the derby! In it to win it.

The only time I would ever feel like snitching to the taxman would be seeing that.
Pure stubbornness. I needed it for the boat and the Harbour Chandler provided. Great shop, I've spent a bunch of time in there.

Holy, tell us about the experience. What was it like at 3AM down there? Did HC ask you to do any promotional pictures etc? What boat are you putting it in? Congrats
It was pretty good. I arrived at 7:30 am on Friday, before many of the staff and owners. I got some good looks and laughs, and apparently set a record for the early show up.

I wasn't sure on the etiquette for bathroom breaks so I had intended on fasting, and brought enough water to have a 2oz sip every hour, which kept me from having to move out of line. I packed reading materials, some electronics and warm clothes and a blanket, and sat myself in the Costco Tommy Bahama chair.

Staff at the store were great and came out to say hi and took a picture early to post to social media, and asked if I needed anything. The night watchman was there earlier on Friday and had a good visit, then left until his return later that night.

I was solo in line until around 3:00pm when the second guy arrived. He was definitely a bit shook that I was there so early. 😆

The day went by quickly, as there was a flury of activity happening to set up for the Saturday sale, and I felt awkward sitting there watching everyone work.

The evening was good, #2 and I tried our best to stream the hockey game to no avail, so we went old-school and listened to it on radio. There seemed to always be someone around to visit with. The staff, owners and their family members were great, and definitely helped pass the time.

The night wasn't bad at all, there was a bit of traffic from the local unhoused population, and really no problems with them at all. #3 in line showed up around 9:30 pm and hunkered down. Aurora Borealis was going crazy that night and kept us entertained for some time.

Fairly uneventful for the rest of the night, I got a few hours sleep in my chair, and the line started to slowly build around 3:00 or 4:00 am, Saturday morning.

The sale kick off was smooth, staff had a plan and there was no craziness, everything was orderly and people were all good and fair.

I got the 12" HDS and picked up an autopilot kit for a great deal, as well as a bunch of other stuff.

Great experience overall and I really appreciate the hospitality of the Harbour Chandler, their staff and owners are amazing!

That's awesome! I honestly can't fit a 12" on my dash, but if I lived in Nanaimo, I'd probably try to make it work. Which transducer are you going with?
I'm doing a P79 Transducer for now, and my 26' Tollycraft is in the water for the season.

Great story! That 12" like by far the best deal, what was #2 after?

Thats probably the earliest any ones lined up for the sale before. I think usually the first couple show up in the afternoon the day before. The second guy must have been so shook he wasn't first! 😅 Congrats on the deals, that's some serious dedication, reminds me of the old boxing day deals back in the day when people would be lined up the night before at A&b sound, future shop etc. ah the good old days.

Haha, yes! I remember doing the line up at A&B Sound on boxing day with my Dad.

Was it a race to the lowrance counter or was there an agreement that you would get it because you put in the time? Boxing Day sales are elbows up chaos
