Thank you!99% of pleasure boats are registered through their number. Your boat likely already has a BCxxxxx number on it. It will stick with the boat when you register it to your name. Unless it’s from out of province. Then you will get a new BC number when you register it.
You can register a vessel using a name but this is far less common practice for pleasure craft and is a more costly and convoluted process. (At least it used to be). I can’t really remember what if any benefit this may provide.
Assuming your boat has its BC number properly displayed you can name it whatever you want and display the name however you want.

Thanks - that'd be greatWe did the Registered Vessel thing, initially dealing with the Feds was a pain, but once you get things figured out it is pretty simple.
We did it because we want to have legal title to the boat and you get to register the boat's name and you own that name.

Be aware of a company called National Vessel Registry Center Corp also known as Canadian Vessel Registry. It purposely and is intended to look like a government website but basicaly is a scam where they want to register your boat for you. You do everything that you have to do when registering through Transport Canada but they charge you $135.00 before you complete all the paperwork. $135 that is non refundable.
