Naden Lodge IS BUYING Halibut QUOTA

They won't. They are a group of 10 Alberta oil guys that run it as a private lodge now. They don't give a rats butt about the SFI or the rest of the industry

you watch... it'll still get nuked. just the word quota and the mods get an itchy finger....

you think guys are bitchin now... wait till they implement a quota on tyees... don't think it'll happen? yeah right..... we've opened the door. government loves a quick buck.

They do have a catch and release incentive program that encourages clients to release Salmon over 30 and Halibut over 80, but I wonder how many actually do. As as been said many times, farmer from Alberta drops a bucket load of cash for a once a year trip, is he really going to be making an informed decision when the gaff comes out? Can you really blame the client?

its the guide and the lodges job to explain to them why they might want to release that 50lb salmon and why they don't want to buy quota. People aren't evil they just don't know any better. When slot restrictions were in place off Victoria I never once had a guest complain when we had to release a wild salmon, because I explained the situation BEFORE we left the dock.

Just what the government wants .......... screws over the common recreational angler with his own out fit ........ It's not a shock !

More pathetic work done by DFO .........

they run from naden harbour all the way to the west side of langara just to kill big halibut
atleast there not missing some of the best salmon grounds in the world lol

They are in Masset, not Naden harbour which is even farther. Doesn't matter when the guests are there for 3 or 4 full days

If the try to pull that, BC will be In a world of hurt. I already hear guys bitching about the regs now and how it's hardly worth the expense anymore. With the high price of fuel, i know guys that don't bother for halibut anymore because of the new regulations. It's tough, when does a guy draw the line in the sand and pack it in, especially when you dump tens of thousands of dollars a season?

People ***** but will still go.

I honestly can't say I've had any complaints once I explain the reasoning behind the regs

I hear complaints all the time about the reasoning behind them ...not about the actual regs themselves too much, odd one here and there for sure though.
