Mystery Mount

On the starboard side of the bow, a previous owner drilled this damn big hole into the deck, feeding into the chain locker.
Below it, I found two wires that are no longer connected to anything.

Anyone have any ideas what the dumbass was thinking and using this for? I know it's likely to be a guess, but it might make more sense.

My guess is a spotlight or something? But there is no sign of what was there and the last two (of many) owners (I fortunately met) didn't know either.

Needless to say, it annoys the f out of me that someone would do this, and then just leave it as is.

PS. I almost named this thread Mystery Hole... but figured that might get a different crowd

I guess someone could have added one since it wasn't included with this boat... but I have to wonder why it was removed. Thanks for the idea.

too small a gauge of wiring to be a windlass control. maybe a cig lighter socket for a hummingbird sonar display. those tend to get corroded quickly which is why they removed it.

Hmm, would such a thing be in the bow in such a spot? That seems something you would install in a covered area.

they usually have a rubber cap which seals out the water. i have the same thing on mine. it gets replaced once every 2 years.
