MR3 drag problem

Different reel and different problem but so much knowledge on this forum, thought I would give it a shot.

Quantum MR3000 - does not matter how hard you tighten the drag down, line still feeds out when on the downrigger. After this you cannot undo the drag because the ratchet just turns inside. I have to get a pair of pliers on the spindle to hold it from turning, in order to undo the drag. Is this the cork? If I grease this it, is it not just going to slip line even easier?

if the drag is cork take the spool off and let sit apart for a few days
clean and re-lube the cork disc
you only need a small sear of lube then tissue wipe the excess off
put it back together and see if you have any improvement
or you may have to put in a drag washer is it possible you may have lost one
not sure how the Quantum drags are put together but it should be along them lines

or ditch it and get yourself a reliable older shimano 4000 gt
F.A. has a shed load ......lol;)

Be nice now, who said they are for sale :) even though I am amazed by what I have been seeing guys listing them for and selling them. I am still not sure I want to part with any. I only have 18-20 of them....... :) LOL

Thx WT. I'll give it a go and see if that works.

P.S. From you past posts in various places I gather you are a fellow Brit who has fished for carp etc. back in the old country. PM me if you want to swop a bit of history.......

That's what you get for buying a Zebco!

DB, I am just a poor immigrant who put three kids through University. I can't afford $500 Islander reels and such top of the line stuff, like you rich Canadians! LOL

Got the two of the Zebco reel and salmon rod combo's from Island Outfitters for $100 each. One reel is still fine so I figure I'm ahead. Also like to use the old wooden Peetz reels which I can pick up for $30 at thrift stores. Gotta fish within my means I'm afraid......
