Hey everyone! I'm moving out to Edmonton in 2 weeks and would love to do some fishing. I have never been there before so I am looking forward to do some exploring and fishing.

I have done a lot of fishing in Northern Alberta and I'd have to say some of the best fishing around and most species would be the North Saskatchewan River. You can bank fish at many different locations west of the city and many more inside the city. If you have a boat there are several launches around to get onto the river. Shallow river so no large boats/outboards, unless you are in River boat. Like nothing over 15HP. It is a great fishery!

As far as lakes go, I would suggest going to a tackle shop and they point you in the direction you need to go. Good Luck!

Thank you!! I have had a few people tell me to fish the Saskatchewan river! What kind of fish can I find in there?

Lived there from 1954 to 1986, feel sorry for you! Anyway, fishing isnt great but most any lake or slough has great northern pike alias jackfish alias hamerhandles as we used to call them because that was about their size. The odd lake has pickerel and small perch. Icefishing can be fun for perch or whitefish. Check out any tackle shop and they'll direct you to the local fishing spots and fish available.

i live in Edmonton, you can catch walleye, gold eye, pike, sturgeon. there are some small ponds around the city and in the city that have rainbow trout that's stocked every year. Just to warn you, our economy in Alberta right now is not the best. In my shop alone i have laid off a hand full of people. If you have any question about the city or questions about neighbor hood just let me know.

I lived in the Edmonton area for many years before moving here to the coast about 10 years ago and I sometimes miss the fishing back there. Some good walleye lakes but nothing close to town. Pigeon had a fantastic catch and release walleye fishery with LOTS of large eyes (biggest I caught there was 8 lbs). Not sure what's happening there now though. Lesser Slave is a walleye factory and produces many small to medium eyes and some really big pike. Fish the west end in the early part of the year then move east as the summer progresses. Calling Lake used to produce some really big eyes (my best was 10.5 lbs but LOTS of 6-8 lb fish). Fawcette was good for smaller eyes. Not a lot close to town, as I said but we took some nice fish from Lac LaNonne which is a reasonable drive.

If I moved back there (no chance) I would definitely look at a river/jet boat to fish the Saskatchewan. I think that is still an excellent, under used fishery.

Good luck and hope you catch a few.
