More Commercial Rockfish Licences Issued?

I got wind the other day from a commercial fishing friend that there has been a release of some commercial rockfish licences. He thought it was a good thing WTF!!!! Just guessing these RCA areas must be working . While the rec. fishermen gets cut back to one fish and restricted on the areas they can fish. The commercial fishermen are getting licences to fish. Oh I get it now more fish we can export...

Of course I had to ask if these were being gifted.....

Could have sworn some place I read regs that say it's o.k. for commies to fish RCA's

According to the DFO website the following fisheries are permitted in RCA's

Recreational fishing

invertebrates by hand picking or dive
crab by trap
shrimp/prawn by trap
smelt by gillnet

Commercial fishing

invertebrates by hand picking or dive
crab by trap
prawn by trap
scallops by trawl
salmon by seine or gillnet
herring by gillnet, seine and spawn-on-kelp
sardine by gillnet, seine, and trap
smelt by gillnet
euphausiid (krill) by mid-water trawl
opal squid by seine
groundfish by mid-water trawl

i just asked my buddy who is a rockfish fisherman and there is no new rockifish liceneses issued. and they cant fish in the rca. he says hes getting squeezed out with the high cost of monitering and expenses of fishing them. looking at a career change

A buddy of mine just sold his boat and went back to the mill as he could no longer make a go of it. Increasing expenses and decreasing availability of quota forced his hand.
