Moorage in Hardy

I'm thinking about taking a trip to Port Hardy in mid July. Is the quarterdeck the only moorage location in Hardy?

You can also go to Scotia Bay. Just on the outskirts of Hardy. Not sure if you have to camp there to get a spot---probably depends on how busy they are. You'll have to wait for a high tide to get launched, though---better to launch in town and come in to Scotia B. by water.

I too don't know if you can moor at scotia bay without staying there but I would NOT let them launch your boat ....you have to wait for the tide and even then he does it with his front end loader....On my boat I ran up to park my truck and when I got back down he had a drill out and was drilling in my hydralic surge brake tounge so he could insert a bolt and back the trailer up without activating the brakes....brakes have never been the same and even get stuck on frequently. We blew a bearing seal due to this and got stuck in Campbell river while trying to make our way to the ferry.

Launch at Quarterdeck and drive your boat to Scotia on the water.
A note about quarterdeck ......It you can try and launch when its not "fuel time" (4-6pm) as it can get pretty packed with boats around then.

The Quarterdeck is the place to keep your boat. Good launch, clean, safe marina, good gear and tackle store,
Lots of good people on the dock to help out with the hots spots. Would book ahead if you can cause it does get full.

You cant launch your own boat at scotia bay? I booked 4 nights rv site there as well as moorage in early july. Maybe shouldnt have? Can you guys explain further please?

Yes, you can have your boat launched at Scotia Bay. It's a gravel launch so you won't be backing your trailer in with your truck. Bud has a front-end loader that he uses----he'll hook up to your trailer to the loader and will drop you in on a high tide.

Not sure why Bud had to do heart surgery on Mike_W's trailer----you'll want some type of mechanism to keep your brakes from engaging because that loader will be both pushing and pulling your trailer during the launch and putting it into a parking spot for you

Here's the Scotia Bay drill:

I would heed Mike_W's advice---if you're camping at Scotia Bay, launch at the Quarterdeck and go to Scotia Bay by water. By doing that, you side-step both the front-end loader deal and you won't be a slave to the tides

(And maybe you won't suffer the heart-brake of someone drilling into the tongue of your trailer doing a mod that you didn't order...)
