Both locations are great! Both have good ramps, good parking, good pubs (basically right at the ramps). You could flip a coin on either for me, the French creek ramp is 15 min away for me and the Nanaimo ramp is 45 min away, once the truck is rolling it doesn't really mater that much, really.
I agree with FA's point on the launching, then fishing, then weigh in and visit at the Dingy Dock Pub and then to the boat ramp, at this time of year may be a bit too much to ask for from the daylight that we have available to us.
The Dingy Dock Pub is a great idea, but the more that I think about it, it would be a great idea for the summer time. It would be a great venue for fishing and then meet and greet, not to many places around that involve the marine element from start to finish for the event. I vote summer time on the Dingy Dock.
I'll keep watching to see what decision evolves as per the guys that it matters to what location we use, if it doesn't matter to any one then flip a coin

17 days and counting! I haven't seen too many jumping in and saying what will work best for them, Nanaimo or French Creek. Like I said before it really doesn't matter too much to me where, if more people want to go to Nanaimo, then I will be there, but for now I will throw a vote to the French Creek Hat, only because it is between both Nanaimo and Courtenay/Comox, and we need to get the decision set up.

ECVI Frozen Fish Stick Classic Derby and Meet and Greet
Date: January 22nd
Location: French Creek Marina and Pub
Start Time: Boats Launch 7-7:30 AM (high Tide 7:52 AM) (sunrise 7:55 AM)
Finish: 2:30 PM All Boats in. (Low tide 1:50 PM) (Sunset 4:51 PM)
Weigh In: 2:30-3:00 PM (Late entries will NOT be accepted for the prize qualification)
Cost: $20.00 per Person
Prizes: 50% of Total fees for biggest fish, 25% of Total fees for 2nd Place, 25% for hidden weight
Meet and Greet to follow at the French Creek Marina Pub located by the launch.
If weather forces the cancellation of the Derby, the Meet and Greet will still be held for those interested. Start time will change to 1:00 PM.
All attendees must register here no later than January 19th so we can notify the pub as to numbers.
Please post a reply if you will be attending the Derby and/or the meet and greet. If you have room on your boat and are offering seating for others, or if you are looking for a seat, please post as well.
Examples:
I'm attending both. I have two seats open for others.
I'll attending but require a seat if possible.
I'm attending the Meet and Greet Only.
