Mid -Island Christmas Get Together?

Okay, so we agree that January 22nd would work so lets go for that. We could call it the "ECVI Frozen Fish Classic Meet and Greet" since I'm guessing in mid Jan it's us that would be doing the Freezing. Fishing Derby first, drinks and food after. Weather permitting of course. What do you think Derby, I'd be happy to work with you to organize the thing since this was originally put forward by you and Im new to the island and don't know the area worth a crap. Let me know.

22nd works for me as well, however I'd add the word "Sticks" behind "Fish" in the title :) Be happy to help organize as well if needed. However this is Derby's idea, we'll let him be the boss.

I agree. Wasn't trying to hijack the thread. Just excited to get involved and looking forward to meeting up with a bunch of new people. Definitely able to help out, but it's his show.

Thought of the "sticks" thing too but figured I'd get kicked off the site for REALLY BAD humour. LOL

Can you guy's e-mail me? No problem with the help. This halibut thing is swamping me right now.;)
Got a e-mail into the Pub and they haven't got back to me-was going to call them this afternoon
deryk@activetackle.com

I talked to Derby on the phone this morning and after discussions, he asked for myself and Bassblaster to take the reigns and he will help as his schedule allows.
Since then I contacted Dinghy Dock pub and discussed using them as a venue for our event. They were more than helpful and enthusiastic about this endevour and will accomodate us with a reservation (tentative Jan 22 right now) and also offer their dock as official weigh station, offer prizes, such as beer pitchers, banners, etc. They inform me they can easily accomodate 20 boats or more and if our numbers are larger assist in rafting, directing traffic or assist shuttling for anchored boats.

So, my idea so far is,

Saturday, January 22nd, 2011 We meet at Brechin boat ramp in early am, say 7:00am Pay our $20 per head ( my suggested price) and go fishing. I would volenteer to spend an hour on ramp collecting fee's and names. If someone else would take over after that, Great! our enlistment time just got longer. If not, I'll be fishing the fingers, neck point, clark rock area and monitor 88a. just for those running late. No entries taken after 10 am. In the event of rough weather (I have small boat) I'll only collect names/fees and meet you at the pub.

I'll have a pen paper and container. $20 dollars a head, 50% to largest fish. 50% to hidden weight (or closest to. under weight taking precident{example hidden weight is 8.2 lbs. one fish 8.0 and one fish 8.4... 8.0 wins} .) All weights between 6 and 20 pounds in 10th pounds incriments (840 chances is my math) will be in a jar to be drawn for this during dinner. Biggest fish has chance to take this one easiliy. In event of tie (both catagories), first weighed wins. We fish til 1:00 pm, and run to Dinghy Dock. Will weigh any fish brought in before 2:00pm. Fish must be on dock at that time, not still in transit.

Hopefully we all sign up in advance but we'll leave the door open at this point.

Any suggestions, comments, offers very welcome at this point as we need to get the ball rolling.
pm me and let me know if you are:

A:going to be there
B:might be there
C:got lost in the process

Just so I can give pub date/number of entries for reservation

Nice job, RK,

I PM'ed Derby but missed his call. Damn Work.

Sounds like you've got things well under way. We should also post this on the "Derbies and Get Togethers" thread as the more the merrier. Also, there was a comment made on another thread about the Comox valley get together being held "in Secret" because it was done through the Kitty Koleman thread instead of the meetings one. Let's not leave anyone out. Besides, I think the other guys will want to get out in the new year as well and we might as well make this a get together for anyone that wants to attend.

For guys like MRACER and myself that have either put their boats away for the year or have other boat issues we should find out who could take an extra person IF they want to. Everything else you've done looks great. I look forward to working with you on this. PM me when you get a chance.

Never, ever, ever put a boat away for the year. It's bad luck.

OHHH! That's why the damn thing has only made it into the water 7 times in 5 years!! I always thought it was because of work! LOL.

If that's the case I finally have a legitimate reason to make sure it gets used. Plus this is the first time I've lived somewhere that the water doesn't turn solid by the middle of Oct.. Excellent!!

One of the members contacted me and suggested we switch the location of the event from Naniamo to French Creek.

Arguments are better access, parking, and the pub is across the road within walking distance. This would make it faster to go from weigh-in and finish to the celebration.

I don't know the area well enough to make the call on this one, so Reel Knotty and I have decided to let you guys make the call. It sounds like a lot of you are from the Parksville Qualicum area already so your feedback would be appreciated. This would drop a few minutes of travel time for the people coming from the north island but add a few top you southerners road time.

Give us your votes so we can place the official post on the meet and greet heading of the site and make the invite official to all.

Thanks in advance.

Well it already seems as though thing are set in place so changing them wouldn't be easy. But I do see reasoning for the thought.

At 1 pm heading to a pub on the water to have a weigh in and drinks/lunch, meet and greet etc...and then boating back to the ramp and trailering our boats. Then driving home. Seems like a long day, and the days are not long at this time of year.

French Creek on the other hand you could be off the water, boats trailered, weigh in completed siting in the pub till after dark. For saftey reasons I see it as a better option.

I am not sure I will come due to saftey reasons at this time of year with day light and weather. I will sit on the side lines and watch. And confirm later.

Nothing is set in stone until we post it on the Meet and Greet topic. It's still a month away. We should try to get things written in stone by the new year though, so everyone can calendar the event time and place.
