There have been several users banned, as I look at the top ten list of people who wreck a thread with a hot headed, rant, insult, drunken tyrade, or my favorite, logging in with multiple handles to really stir the pot, I find it easier just go not have to deal with them anymore. How can hundreds of users get into thousands of posts without causing trouble, but a select few guys cause probably %80 of the problems I get here..

As much as this forum is a great place for VI fishing, at the end of the day, it's a business, and the nature of it's business is to move SFBC to the top of Google through quality fishing related content. This is not a bar, boy's club, or podeium for rant of the hour, it's a business and that's all.

Regarding the poll, this isn't a democracy and I'm not Ben Franklin.. There are several other fishing boards people can jump into every fight with their dukes up, around here, it just causes me more work.

I'll x3 that LC. Personally, I don't mind the hotheads all that much. I never seem to agree with them, and sometimes I find their constant urge to wreck this place for others irritating. I have no patience for discriminatory language. But for all that, sometimes they make it intersting, and set a good example for the rest of us not to follow. And at least a couple of them have proven themselves to be good guys in person in one way or another. But I get that this is not a public space. It is a private space, and if we don't play by the rules, we lose our priviledges. The mods do good work, and their decisions should remain final.

Well said by LC, as someone who mods a bit of a crazy site myself(non fishing), I have seen the results of people who treat forums like their personal insane asylum.
Tis a thankless job and you are always the bad guy, people tend to forget that you're staff here because you love fishing(or whatever said site's theme is).

Since starting this policy a while ago, I have noticed a dramitic decrease in the complaint emails landing in my inbox, consequently, we will maintain our "G" rated direction of the site. RVP, MR. Trailer, Fenwicker, Robert Warren, The Fish Assassin, Ding Dong, UNKOWN, have all had one thing in common, when they are gone, life got easier. I've tried working with all of them, warnings, guidelines, etc, but nothing seemed as effective as the ol' delete key.

And yes, the ol' boat needs more then a tube of Sika, needs a good pressure washing and a day of elbow grease.. Next weekend.

I also moderate on a few websites, this website is rated "G" compared to the others, i really have to watch my comments on here when coming from one of the others i belong to, dont wanna offend the disney folks around here......i do agree moderating is a thankless job at times, but i also think that people have a right to have their say and express themselves....being objective and puting your personal beliefs or opinions of certain individuals you may not like, to the side is one of the keys to being a good and effective moderator.....at the end of the day, if a user who has been an excellent contributing member, has been banned or suspended, and does their time, i almost always let them return if they want to.....showing support for members who have been removed, especially on a forum such as this one, IMO, shows a great deal of solidarity, and helps keep fishermen united as a community.....my 2 cents.....thanks MOD.............holmes*


ps...and just to address the comment of there being a "poll" or a "democracy"...IMO, fellow members and outdoors people standing up for, and supporting another member is a form of unity which keeps our lifestyle going....i can't see it being a bad thing making admins/mods aware that certain members are missed and to maybe think about re-instating their priveleges and account.....

I don't dare ask why when I was banned why no one even wanted to post something like this. But at least I now who wanted it the most.. And I liked the break.. It allowed me to consider who we're my friends and who were just jerks, some of which still try to fire me up.

And we all know just a few things that should have got Lorne banned but lots of us smiled and laughed at his comments even though many people shook their heads and reported his posts.

I know certain people bag on me all the time and try to stir me up like Duffer and a couple others I will not mention. As I am not going to start a fight between me and others people.

I am certain the mods see this and have to deal with stuff like this over and over again and maybe it's easier to just delete someone. In other cases maybe it would be easier to delete the whiners who in which he speaks about who trash him for being honest.

I just wonder if there is some separation between sportsmen and business. I know this is a business but is it not about sport fishing and sports fishermen? Lorne may not be a life long angler in BC but he has been an angler and hunter in Canada his whole life and he knows his stuff whether I or someone else likes it or not. He plays by the rules in all of his sport outings and is not scared to point out the truth whether you want to hear it or complain about it.

I am not going to to vote on his banning. But if you ever meet him in the field or on the the water the guy is a sportsman.
