Hey guys, looking for some opinions on a kicker I might buy. Does anyone have/had a mid '80's Mercury 110 9.9hp. motor? Also, because oil is so much different now than back in the '80's could I mix 400ml./25 litres instead of 500ml?

500 ml of oil is to much for 50 to 1 mix.16 oz on the old scale is 50 to 1 . Thanks Willyd

16 oz is 500 mls or 2 cups or a 1/2 litre

Best thing to do is phone a merc dealer /mech and get the right amout for that year of a moter

good luck wolf

Stick to the original 50:1 plan. My reason is this. Your 20 something year old kicker with 20 something year old crank seals, that are most lickly dry & worn nead all the oil they can get to seal properly. If they leak your engine will be running lean possibly causing severe internal engine damage. Also while on the subject. Don.t cheap out on oil. Use only name brand,OMC, Merc,Suzuki or whatever. As far as aftermarket brands Esso is ok. All others will carbon the crap out of your motor severly redusing the hours remaining in it's life. Hope this is helpfull. Billy the boat mechanic.[8D]

Spoke with a marine mechanic and question now answered. I have a 3 gallon gas tank which 6 oz.or 177ml. of oil is added.Took boat out yesterday afternoon, got a TAD wet.lol. motor purred along. thanks again for suggestions.

Hay Crabbuster. Get a second opinion before you rec your engine. 50:1 is as follows. 3 Gal imp would use 275ml oil. 3 Gal US would use 225ml. Your motor want's a 50:1 mix. Two cycle engines run real good without enough oil till they go boom.:( Lot's of luck. Billy the boat mechanic.[8D]

thanks Billy for tips but I must have the stupid year for mercs' because it is running fine on my ratio, plus my mechanic, who has been in the biz for 30 years, was in agreement with my calculations so I think i'll take his word for it,k?
