MATSUO Diamond Hooks

Stopped by Crappy Tire the other day and came across a hook style I'd never seen before.

They're made by Matsuo and are shaped like a diamond rather than having a conventional hook shape. CT had them in almost all sizes and they LOOK like they might be a decent idea.

Has anyone tried these things? Are they any good? Or are they designed to catch fisherman's money rather than fish?

Those are called Sickle Hooks-an old commercial design that's coming back around again, they hook & hold well but the Matsuo product is only available to 5/0 IIRC.

Bassblaster: I used the Sickle Hook as Dogbreath shows above in size 6/0 on some of my hoochies last winter. I thought they performed quite well, especially in hook-up and retention of fish. The red finish does wear off fairly quickly and they will need sharpening after 10 to 20 fish, but thats not that bad. I like the idea of the red hook for some of the hoochies I use (white glow especially). That combination worked well most of last winter in Beecher Bay/Sooke area.

I touch my hooks up after each fish.A hook in the mouth of a big spring gets dull pretty fast.
