Massive School of Whitesides From BC Ferry-Video

Not nearly as many as in the video, more like a pretty small group, surrounded my boat back in May while fishing up around Pt. McNeil. One of the coolest things ever! Unbelievable how fast they blew by, back and forth. Like huge torpedos. We could hear them coming through the fog wondering what could it be. We were just in awe!

I love seeing those big pods of dolphins offshore as it usually seems to be an indicator that I will soon run into albacore However, seeing them is often a love hate thing as from a distance, they can be confused for albies. The typical "call" is "Albies over there", followed by a pulse rate increase, a quick turn and a brief disappointment to find dolphins, followed by a slight uptick in mood as I know that albies are likelky not too far away. Now if only albacore would discover the strait of Georgia. It would make running for tuna so much easier. :)

Last year we ran into one of these super pods out of bamfield fishing tuna. It was an epic day for wildlife, including risso, dalls and white sides. Pulling a long loop, we ended up as the last dolphin in the pod, which was an estimated 2 miles+ long. I believe Crabby and Osama were right in the middle of the pod. It was incredible, much like this video.

thanks for posting.

That is great!! How much did the ferry list when everybody went over to the starboard side to watch;)
