Hi. four of us are thinking about running up from Puget Sound in a 28' Grady White and fishing over the first weekend in June. I'm thinking about the Sunny Shores as a place to tie up and sleep a couple folks ashore, either in a room or tenting, but would appreciate any other recommendations you might have.

I appreciate your time in replying. We'd likely arrive late on a Thursday and fish through Sunday morning.

Sunny shores has Rooms and campsites...... and mini golf :D
We like staying there.
Remember that it looks like the slot restriction will still be in place

Does Pedder Bay have rooms for rent or camping? We're thinking we shouldn't all sleep on the boat, so need some shore accommodations.

Sooke Harbour Marina has some very nice rooms. Newer marina, BBQs on the docks and in the condos.

Pedder just has the RV park

keep in mind all the current chaos with DFO - there will likely only be a catch and release fishery around here for the most part (over 8-9 pounds anyway). They are still being wishy washy with dates, but the restriction may very well push to the end of June and maybe as far north as Sombrio Point. Its a long haul from Sooke to get there. If you are rigged for halibut though, no problem.

If you want comfort, I would certainly consider staying at Sooke Harbour Marina as suggested if you do stay here - 2 br townhomes start at $249 - moorage comes with it.

We'll have to think about the slot size restriction. That applied to natives only? So how do return time going through sooke in the next month or two.....when do natives go by and when hatchery? if it is possible to answer that.

I guess we would be happy getting some crab, and 2-5 15 pound fish each, and maybe a halibut.

I'm thinking there are no prawns close by?

and thanks for all the replies, I'm still listening.

Slot size restrictions apply to anyone fishing Chinook in area 19/20.
any unclipped fish over 67cm (about 26") must be returned.
therefore you won't be able to keep the big boys unless they happen to
be hatchery fish.

p.s. that will include your 15lb'ers :(

If you are stuck with June and really want to fish for kings, you would be better off planning for Port Renfrew area. While we should know until the end of the month about the restriction, you can expect that it would be safely open by July 15th, but likely open by July 1 (isn't that a pain in the arse for vacation planning - thanks DFO :(). As craven say, no 15 lb'ers before then unless you get lucky with a clipped (not many are caught in June).

Crabs and halibut, no problem anytime - prawns - think you are better off east side of Victoria but I'm not the expert on that one. I'm sure you can do a search here.

Definatlly go to sooke harbour marina way better facilities than SS.
And way cleaner....

Does the Sooke Harbour Marina have a fuel dock yet for gas and diesel or do you still have to go to Sunny Shores by boat to fuel up unless you have a pickup full of jerry cans available to go get gas?

PS -I agree Wolf Sunny Shores certainly does need to paint their fish cleaning station and fix up the bathroom.

So, I'm thinking about postponing till after the size limit, or going elsewhere. Renfrew is a bit far. Is there any reasonably good fishing up inside from Victoria, but above the size limit?

While being a bit far Renfrew is only 1 hour on a good day past Sooke (30ish miles) if I remember correctly. Could gas up at SS and a breather/night and roll out in the AM.
If I get this boat done in time my cross hairs are set there and I live in Sooke.

Crabbing is un-real up there too for the most part
