Lost a Scotty downrigger between gold river and Nanaimo. 2106b. 15lb ball attached
Culprit was the mounting screws backed off. Rigger mount broke and go bye bye. Checked my other side and it was ready to make an exit also.
Could have been worse could have been fishing and a rod reel go down with it.

My new replacement came with the new style counter. Hopefully they last longer

That sucks but considering the length of the mount bolts doesn't really get into the nylocs I'm not surprised this doesn't happen more. The plates have no room for any more length beyond flush, makes me think about making recesses in the gunwales and going 1/8" longer hardware. Maybe buy longer bolts and trim with a grinder. Appreciate the warning though, wish it didn't cost as much as it did for you.

Live and learn. I put lock tire on the 4 machine screws holding the rigger mount to the swivel. Should be good now. Shocked to see how close I was to loosing a second.

I have Burneweiin bayonet mounts on my boat. A few years ago, too cheap to buy the proper Burneweiin Scotty mounting plate ($100 for the pair) I made my own mounting plates out of marine ply-wood. They looked way snazzier then the black plastic mounts once I put a bit of varnish on them, too

While fishing Hakaii I hung a ball on an underwater cliff and boom! The plywood exploded and my 2106 went over the side. I don’t put my rods in the rod holder so the rod was safe but I figured the DR was a goner…but Lordy, the plug held fast and I got it back and fished out the rest of the trip with my other SCotty

Went back to the real world and bellied up to the bar for the stupid over-priced Burneweiin mounts and considered myself real lucky….I’m in love my my 2106’s and that would have been painful…sorry for your loss
