So I'm no stranger to losing lures on the bottom, and take my lumps as part of the cost of fishing for rock-bottom fish. Fine. But twice in the last month I've lost lures only to find not only that the line (80lb braid) has not broken, but the knot is still intact too. As in, the loop is still there, the knot is still tied, everything is as it should be ... but no lure. The only thing I can think is that there's a small gap in the eye of the lure where the line is tied and somehow the line is finding it just when I get a hit or some kelp.
I'm fishing Lighthouse Lures 6 oz mega bytes, btw, which have always been rock-solid for me (but about a month ago I caught a bad batch where the hooks actually broke in half - Gibbs/Delta replaced them, but still).
