New to the Powell River Area, we are looking to buy a good boat to learn to fish with. We have a budget of $18,000. Would love if people had opinions on in board or outboard. Looking for a boat around 21 feet.
21 feet and 18k is pretty low. Most members like outboards but you will find more inboards at that price point. Are you mechanical? Most at that size and price will need a lot of work, so either budget for paying $140 an hour or paying big money for parts and doing it yourself.
That's not much budget but there's certainly good options for a first boat if your looking sub 21'. Some Double Eagle 185s with a 140-150 would fit there. A 90s 176 Double Eagle or 17 Hourston can both fit that budget with good power (four stroke 115 that's newer than 2010).
I'd strongly consider buying less size (17-19 footers) and more quality if sub 20k is the budget. The above options are great Powell River first boats. The above suggestions are all day boats but so are the 21 footers in reality.
I have been fishing Powell River my whole life. All you need is a Double Eagle 176 or Malibu Tyee and that's about all you will find with that budget. Can also do lake days, beach days etc.
I agree with seabeyond's comments above.
