Looking for advice on electric downrigger

Well, the Scotty HP is on it's way, so no turning back now. Anyway, for me with my mild/moderate dyscalculia it's worth it to get meters. Oh, and my limites keeps slipping... I'm now hoping to be able to fish on 50 meters (160 feet) for cod and ling. A fjord close to us has a lot of ling, we have had some close to ten kilos in fish traps. I don't know if you use those in BC, but they look like this:

They are 130 cm by 80 cm and about 120 cm tall in the water. The entrances are on both sides of the bottom chamber, we get both fish and crawfish and Norway king crab (a smaller species than the Alaskan king crab) in those. They are very nice to use to find out what kind of fish can be found where as well. They take very little room in the boat, like this:

I have a rack I have made myself for three of those, so I can drive them out just like we do with crawfish traps on the trap tray on the side of the boat.

He wants meters. If I had my depth sounder at meters and used meters my whole life and bought a dr with feet I would loose dozens of balls not just the half a dozen I’ve lost.
Why not just set the chartplotter to feet.. and move on.

I thought about that, but all your apps, your printed charts, etc., that you use for a quick reference would still be metric.

I remember watching the PGA not long ago where all the Australian players were using meters to figure out how far they had to hit the ball on American courses that were clearly marked in feet on all the sprinkler heads, etc.

Because all the maps here are in meters, for one thing. So are my five reels with line counters, for another. ;)
Did you ask which model of counters you're getting? I heard a funny issue they had with the first run of the latest and greatest counters. Apparently when running in meters, they only count up to 30 meters 😬. These new ones have visible round rubber buttons for the on/off and zero. The meters issue has since been addressed but obviously old stock is still out there. Who knows though, even the older style ones had their non-lemon runs and have worked for some guys for years with no issues.

They were. Let’s just support @Scotty Fishing Products on growing their exports to Europe. Especially the ones that work there not trying convince someone to save 50 euros to get a product that doesn’t work when their buddy comes fishing with them. Peetz as well, lots of lures and reels to be sold there. Let’s go team Canada.
The ask was for ideas and thoughts, so simply that was my input. Nobody is trying to convince anyone of anything, especially not me. I personally don't care what people buy, do or use. It's their own choice and decision to make.

Regardless, I believe in 100% Canadian Made, USA Made products and that will never change. I believe in the highest quality standards possible and I also believe in creating the longest lasting products that I can make, just as most other localy made manufacturers believe in also.

Not that any of it needs to be explained whatsoever. The best part about open, honest, helpful exchange of thoughts are that so much more can come out on any given topic.

Back to sharing thoughts and ideas and being helpful as i possibly can without hindering the open dialog of any forum topic.

Oh, if anybody's interested (I know this is neither sportsfishing nor BC....), here's a short video where I drive out the fish traps (in Norweigan called havteiner, which means "ocean traps"):

That is super cool! Traps are collapsed until in the water. Do you have some more videos showing them coming back up to the boat? How much weight in each trap and on the line itself? Lots of us on here set prawn traps, typically in 80-100 m depths.

@PEETZcanada I was by no means meaning to be impolite, if I came across that way. It's just that the Scotty 2106 downrigger is already well on its way, and I really like to have a precise meter counter. :)

@sly_karma and @Dorman Point Thanks! I am very satisfied with it. Just like my crawfish tray, which came with the boat. Lobster season just ended, so now my crawfish traps are going out again Thursday. Late fall, winter and early spring is the best time for that.

I did not see anywhere in the conversation that you were at all impolite. :)
