Looking to move on from my Campion 542, which I love!
Want to be able to do a bit of boat camping w wife in golf islands but has to be a strong open water boat for west coast.
Will not do I/O.
Considering a Wellcraft 232 Coastal or Campion 682.
Thoughts about these or others to consider?
Budget $60k but could go higher for the right boat.

What year is your 542 and what will you be asking.

There is a recent thread that had similar parameters. I'll repeat my comment from it: 22-23 ft is too small for overnighting in all but very occasional use. The amenities and space are barely a step above sleeping in the box of a pickup.

I saw that, thanks. I know I’m looking for a unicorn. We just sold our 3818 and had a 2458 previously. Trying to find a compromise I can trailer comfortably and spend a few nights on the water even if a bit uncomfortable.

07, I’m a ways from that though. Own it either way partners.
Sorry, I own it with partners. We need to decide how to move forward. Might not be this summer

A 23’ double eagle lets you sleep like a baby.
Hot coffee to get underway and bacon and eggs while you wait for the morning bite. A stand up toilet for the ladies and life is good.

"Sleep like a baby"? Are you sure you want that? Babies wake up every couple of hours, because they've shat themselves.

I don’t think they even make a 23, 20 is max, they made some custom model over the years

I upgraded from a 2000 542 Campion after 10 years to a Grady White 228G podded Seafarer, huge upgrade, we have slept on it tied to a dock. Much bigger dance floor than the 542 but the 682 is great as well.

Not many around that I’ve seen, 22’-4 “, it’s like the 682, guys call them 24 but are actually 6.82 m, so like 22-6”
Maybe your not old enough, they were built in the 70-80s.Sunny Shores in Sooke ran a bridge model 24 for many years way back when. I worked on 2 of the 34's with friends ,we got the hull and deck and then finished the interior etc..Still lots of them around.Currently DE has very low production of the models shown in the brochure.I've owned the 17,18 1/2 and the 206 outboard models. The 206 would be a lot better podded.

Ya I’ve seen a few of the bigger ones, but 24 models I don’t think I’ve ever seen one, and no I am not as old as you lol, plus I am a transplant from Quebec almost 40 years ago

Getting off the OP's topic a bit.The boats I think would suit him is my favourite 22 or 24 Seasport.23 or 25 Wellcraft Coastal,682 Campion,232 Grady,2470 or 255 Pursuit, maybe a 22 Arima or Seawest 22 or 24 if you can find one. These are all fiberglass w/outboard power only suggested. Most will be over the $60K budget.I can't think of an aluminum that will work with that budget and an overnighter.OOPS,forgot the golden oldies,23 Hourston or 20 something DE's.

I think the 682 refers to the length from the bow(excluding the pulpit) to the back of the transom(excluding bracket).
And to stay on topic I think the 682 is a viable option for the OP if he can find one in his budget. It’s a pretty tight fit for sleeping in the cuddy though.

Yes, 22-6” not excluding the pod,27ft oal my friend has one for sale now, in his price range, 2005 with a 250 Yamaha, but suffered multiple log strikes, all fixed under insurance, by Extreme in Nanaimo , he also has a full rebuilt 250 for extra, 50k would get him both, but it is what it is, I know the history so buyers beware
