Lings in Saanich Inlet

I've got a friend who is just DYING to catch a lingcod. I don't know who told her what about them, but her eyes sure light up when I mention them. Anyways, I was thinking of doing a prawn/ling excursion to Saanich Inlet. Looks like a pretty lingy area to me, anyone ever target them there?

Not even sure if they're open. There was some chatter about May 1st.
I better have a look to see.

Of all the fish I've caught on the Coast in my life, Ling Cod are the ones I miss catching the most. Hard to beat as a table fish.

the inlet will be closed for prawns from the 6th to the13th. As of a week a go, lings were closed but I'm not sure now that we're into May.

Thanks Hook!

So, I guess the next thing to check is if there's any RCA's in areas 19 & 20. I know there's one of the 'Race' if memory serves.

We used to get quite a bit all around the inlet.... lings and big yellow eyes

Yup, that was a a lot of fun and some good eats 20 years ago

Shoulda seen it 50 years ago , caught some big lings off of the Mill bay ferry ramp , used to jig shiners for Dad and he had the old green fabric lie and a weight to throw out into the deeper water , lots of fish back then , monster ones off of the Bamberton dock.
