line twist

I never seem to get line twist on my salmon gear but I always seem to get it on my trout gear while using a spinning reel. (There is a certian way to lay the spool of line while you are spooling it onto a spinning reel and it is different from a M2 reel). If I get a bad case of line twist ..... tie on a big bead chain swivel and nail it to a tree, post or something, back up till all the line that is affected by the line twist is now stetched out, jerk it a few times like your tring to set the hook then give it lots of instant slack. Repeat this until the twist is comletely gone..... reel in all your line and go fishing. I don't really think its a mystery .... if your getting line twist..... your swivels are not working.

And remember....Keep your tip up!!!

I like the plastic tee-beads in front of the swivel and use em all the time, especially in Elk & Beaver when they get swampy. They fit right over the eye of the swivel & even keep chains clean.

Clear, pink, chartreuse, blue or green.

I could see twist being an issue mooching, just maybe, but with the 20' behind a rigger-clip? I can't see that being a real problem. That 20' might be more of a problem if it was stretched-out & dead, but twist?

And, technically, spoons ought not pulled so fast as to be spinning, just wobbling... like dodgers. When I buy a new supply of swivels, I put the on a safety pin dunk them in WD40, pull them out roll the swivels around to ensure interior penetration, set them on a paper towel for the night & put the bunch in my vest pocket.

I've only had twist problems with spinning reels using stiff lines or with flourocarbon as a mainline. Or when cast & retrieving those PowerBait squids. man those things go all over the place using a jerk-retrieve even when only nose-hooked.

cheers!

UUUMMM when did elk and beaver become part of saltwater fishing????
:D:D:D

Wolf

I don't know anyone who would be silly enough to twist there line off the spool onto the reel? The twist we are talking about is from the flasher rotation right? I use the same high priced swivel as Wolf, but I also have added a high quality swivel about 1-2 ft up from that one. I've had one or the other foul from weeds, but never both. It might seem like two extra knots, that might not be needed, But I'm confident in my West Coast Fisherman knots!:D

Take only what you need.
