line twist

I'm getting line twist using 25lb mono, even though i'm using a bead chain and flasher's with ball bearing swivels...
Does using 30lb mono help ?

just looking for opinions.

:)

I use both 25 lb. and 30 lb. mainline and have no problem with line twist with either lb. test. I use either a ball bearing swivel on my rod or a bead chain. Your problem is likely the ball bearing swivel on the rod end of your flasher. Try another flasher and see if the problem persists.

Same here -- I use 25lb mono and don't have a twisting problem. I think I'd hit your flashers and swivels with WD-40 and stop driving in circles.

As mentioned, lubricate your swivels. If you're still having line twist after that, don't completely respool with heavier line.Heavier main gives way more drag in the water when fishing deep.Try adding on a 30 ft section of 40lb test line to the end of your main line. A small section of heavy line between your release clip and flasher should eliminate twist.

Your line twist may be from spooling the line on your reel wrong. Been there, done that, in my younger days. If this is the case, the only thing to do, is get rid of it and re-spool. Tight Lines,.....................BB

Adding a swivel 6" or so above your flasher will help.

LET GO OF THE REEL!!!

Tie a bead swivel about 1-2 feet from your flasher on your mainline.

IMHO 6 ft is too far away and might make netting the fish more difficult if you have eyes on the end too small to wind the swivel through.

Take only what you need.

I'd be checking the flasher, the bottom sampo bearing swivel must be hooked on properly. The open swivel end must be pointing downward

Change the line regularly being cheap never pays! [:o)]

It actually depends on how you take it off the line spool while you wind it onto your reel. Ya, I know, you are thinking, ya right! Well I know of a famous someone on this site that did not believe. Then it happened, he wound on his own stuff and then discovered the issue. He then stripped it all off and then re-installed it. Truly the issue is not related to cheap line. All line can have this very issue if not done correctly. Only the ill informed would spout cheap line. lol Mason

The line should be pulled off the line spool so the spool spins on it's axis by using a dowel/pencil in the center of the spool. Line coming off the side of the spool while laying on one side will result in the line getting twisted when being loaded on to the reel.

A flasher spins 1000's of times a day. A bit of sea snot can clog it and start twisting the line. Swivel and snap on mainline, 12" of 200 lb mono crimped to bead chains on each end, one more snap, then flasher. Someone on here posted this a few years back, seems to eliminate the problem altogether for me. An extra 15" to the hook is no big deal, unless you have leaders too long for your too short rods.

20 feet of twisted line will not effect your entire run. Just like fishing without a swivel from your flasher to hoochy will not, as well as not having a swivel on a spoon. It will not greatly effect your overall run of line. It's all myth! Mason

Yes, but those twenty feet of twisted line are a pain in the arse if you keep a loose drag on your reel when setting the clip. The line tends to loop over the rod tip, slowing down the whole production.

Scott all you need is to go to trotac and get a good quick change swival like this one here and problem will be solved, all the days fishing and the ONLY time I have problems and it doesnt matter how many pieces of swivals etc is when there is weeds around and it covers it so it can spin especially that damn ell grass!!!!!

Thats the problem with bead chains they are not very good in that aspect compared to a good sampo internal ball bearing swival been running these now for close to 10 years and they are by far the best I have ever used, they are a bit pricy but quality and less grief is worth it to me. fishing is supposed to be fun not frustrating.
