Hey Guys .. I have a boxed 2014 Merc.115 and need to hoist it out of the box and on to my boat. I know that Mercury has a tool for this called a flywheel puller with lifting ring and can be purchased anywhere from $180.00 to $300.00 US. Is there any other options or a universal lifting tool out their besides paying this crazy amount of money for this tool.

I bought a lifting ring off my mercury dealer for $40 bucks a few years ago for my 225 optimax. 180 sounds crazy. Mine threads on the crank and has a eye weided on.

just get a 5/8 hardened steel bolt about 2 inches with fine thread and a couple of nuts. get a 2 foot section of good chain and put the bolt thru the last link (need big chain) put on the two nuts behind the chain. Screw the bolt into the receiver on the top of the flywheel and tighten it (not crazy tight) and cinch down the nuts. Attach to your cherry picker and install.

Thanks for the quick replies .... The newer Merc's now require a plate bolted in to flywheel with three bolts and the lifting eye is bolted on to the plate. I was hoping that others out there have ran into this problem and have found away to save themselves some money. I know that using the right tool for the right job saves time but $250.00 for the right tool is crazy.

Get a piece of 5/16 plate and drill 3 holes to match the flywheel. Drill a hole in the middle and put in an I bolt. Screw the plate to the flywheel. With long enough screws to allow the nut on the Eye bolt to clear. Also there are flywheel pullers with slotted arms to match up bolt holes.
