Does anyone know where our money goes? I for one would like to see the breakdown. Is it possible some of our money is going to the aquaculture program at D.F.O.? Isn't it a conflict of intersest for D.F.O. to have such a program? Anyway, I kinda do know our money finds its way to help fishfarms. Isn't that a kick in the nuts.

pretty sure saltwater liscence fees going into the general revenue account. I think money is then handed out by the federal gov. - I think only the stamp fees go directly to conservation.

I used to work for DFO in finance years ago, then, none of the money from the recreational licenses went into their budget. They received their budget at the start of the year and a revenue target for licenses.

All the revenue from licenses went into general revenue, in fact, if they sold more licenses than planned, DFO Pacific had to pick up the extra printing costs leaving less money for other things.

I just hope our money is finding its way to the right places. I would even pay more if I knew it would go directly to fish enhancment.

you just got your answer, no it isn't finding its way into the right place. And we wonder why hatcheries are underfunded.

ONLY ONE DOLLAR OF THE SALMON CONSERVATION STAMP GOES TO SALMON CONSERVATION....THE REST GOES TO GENERAL REVENUE IN OTTAWA....PACIFIC SALMON FOUNDATION GETS ONE DOLLAR, BUT HAS A RIDCULOUS AGREEMENT WITH THE TREASURY BOARD....THEY HAVE TO MATCH EVERY DOLLAR.....PSF IS NOT INTERESTED IN RECEIVING ANYMORE THAN ONE DOLLAR AS THE TOTAL AMOUNT THEY WOULD HAVE TO MATCH WOULD PUT A SERIOUS DENT IN THEIR ABILITY TO FUNCTION....ASK ANYONE WHERE THEY THINK THE $6.00 + GOES TO AND THEY WILL TELL YOU SALMON CONSERVATION ...OF COURSE....UNTIL THIS AGREEMENT IS TORN UP OUR HARD EARNED MONEY THAT WE "THINK' WE ARE ALL SPENDING ON "SALMON CONSERVATION" WILL CONTINUED TO BE STOLEN FROM US BY DFO AND THE TREASURY BOARD....WHAT A JOKE....ITS A FRAUD.....

I can confirm that just over $1 per stamp actually goes towards the PSF. It actually ends up being around $1.10 per stamp as once they reach a figure of around 250,000 (ballpark) then the contribution goes way up to around $4 per stamp but they usually end up right around that target level. Regardless, the fact that the other $5 per stamp goes to general revenue in ottawa is a damn shame since most people (like myself) probably assume that the entire proceeds of their stamp do go towards conservation. That said, the PSF is in the midst of finally convincing gov't that the majority of the proceeds from the stamp should be coming back to PSF in order for them to conduct conservation efforts. Not only will the majority of proceeds of the $6 stamp go towards PSF but the $6 stamp (which has been $6 for the past couple decades) will be going up to around $20 per stamp, which I think most recreational fisherman would be totally fine with as long as the proceeds are going to a good cause that we all support (ie. sustainable salmon for decades to come). Let's hope they can get this pushed through at the gov't level so that we can start to see some much larger local efforts to protect our fish. The gov't sure isn't doing it's part to its up local orgs and communities to get involved.

I would gladly up the increase to $40 instead of $20 if they did away with the DFO and replaced it with a department that took a common sense approach to managing the west coast fisheries.

Now why cant we have a halibut stamp and put the money towards us getting 20 percent of the quota rather than 12?Anyone know?

We could if we had someone truly accountable to managing the $ generated by the stamp. Are you going to trust the DFO and the Fed Govt to do that?

If you want to do this then we should hire an accounting firm that collects $ from rec hali fishers, puts it in a account for the sole purpose of buying hali quota.

But then you have to ask yourself we do we have to buy back our own common property resource? In my opinion we should keep pressuring the DFO/Govt for a more reasonable 20% TAC for sportsfishing and not pay anything for it. Paying for it continues a dangerous trend for sportfishing IMO.
