Can anyone tell me what the "proposed changes" are? I've seen no proposed changes on the Sportfish B.C. web site, although I may have missed it, nor heard of any from my usual contacts.

Im assuming this letter has been sent due to the recent SRKW proposed salmon closures. These closures are real and will be devastating to coastal communities and businesses. Not that letters do any thing but we have to try . Not looking good !!!! after Renfrew this time slowly making there way up the island , please write your letters they will be after your area next !!!!

Yes it is in response. Even worse is some of the so called science being used to justify this. I don't have the close details from what I know DFO is trying to ram this through with little consultation. Basically closed off areas just for the whales again on top of what was cut out in Sooke. Communities like Renfrew and others north of Sooke would be impacted for sure. This is just in beginning stages but anglers should be aware.

I predicted this would happen when we had the discussions about Pender Bluffs and earlier Sanctuaries and Closures. Many thought no big deal as they were still OK. It was just the start and it will continue to spread. Once they got their foot in the door, nothing would stop them, I think deep down most people realized this. It gets easier for them every time!

one additional thing. We always used to say slides this busy we’re pretty much useless.

When do we follow science and do we not.
It seems like if the science supports our personal feelings, we believe it and if not the science is crap.
I think we are asking to follow the science , the only science that I believe is crap is that fishing closures will make a difference, or my little 9.9 Yamaha scares the whales from feeding, coho have been closed for over 20 years where are we at with that. We have done our part I think its time other groups step to the plate and do theirs.

I just wrote the minister as I have the last few years asking for MSF and better opportunities for hatchery Chinook.
I know people are sick of writing but it's our only option.

I hope that science is followed but this Minister has not done that so far ............................... one can hope and try hard to make your point.

Make sure you guys in Victoria/Sooke attend that SFAC online meeting tonight for area 19/20. I am sure this will be covered. With number anglers and guides down there really should be hundreds phoning in! Pretty serious stuff. If Renfrew falls won't be much of an option for that fishery. So many people from Victoria fish Renfrew in summer months as well as Sooke Area. I am surprised the response from public isn't stronger on this one. Especially a 2nd round.

Look at Pender Island it can happen.

Looks like dfo will have a easy ride pushing this through. I thought I would see a glimmer of hope at meeting last night from the regular Joe anglers with attendance. A virtual meeting, and only same handful of people calling in. Too bad. There is so much to lose. I feel people have just given up and it shows. My hats off to the volunteers must be extremely frustrating.
