Would be interested in thoughts on best leader length for summer Chinook success. (Flasher with anchovy vs coyote spoon vs hootchie). Targeting springs I usually go 60 - 70" with chovy and hootchie and bit shorter with the spoons. I'm sure there are lots of differing opinions out there especially factoring in trolling speed but would appreciate any advice that can put more fish in the boat! Cheers

Went back quite a way but didn't see this topic....sorry if repeat.

I use only two lengths, 3 feet or 6 feet.
Mostly fish 6 feet with c-spoons.
Sometimes I will increase by 6 more inches.
I let the fish show me what they prefer.
I also keep records so I know where to start.

5 to 8 ft for bait. Usually around 6 ft, I like longer later in the season.

3 wraps around a flasher from top to bottom (33'') to 36'' for hootchies.

42''(3.5ft) to 60''(5ft) for coyote spoons.

And I've had success with a 24" leader for Coyote spoons.
It's not an exact science.

Yep.. I'm sure there are lots of differing opinions!

Flashers... I ALWAYS start out with "green", then "red", then "blue"!

I use coyote and hootchies for silvers, but rarely use them for "summer chinooks". I do use them for "feeders"! But, for the summer run... I usually start out with about a 7 foot leader, with anchovies and increase up to about 12', then will start cutting back about 4" or 5" until the "fish" start liking it!

Trolling speed... Yep, again... you have to find what the fish like! I have trolled very slow, to very fast. There is a LOT of factors with that one! Tide, wind, depth, etc!

ONLY the FISH know the answer to some of your questions!

Well I think that cleared it right up.

To summarize - leader length 2' to 12' and troll speed somewhere between dead slow and really fast.

No wonder this is such an easy sport :D

Thanks for the feedback...will go longer with the c-spoons as Spring Time and GLG sugest. Cheers
