Langara Island End of August

Hi,
I am wondering of any of you guys have experience with the Langara island fishery. I am going up there to fish a small derby on Sunday and it is all catch and release.

My question is - are the larger chinook salmon actively feeding up there at this time of year or is it more of an aggression type bite we are trying to entice? The standard is always to fish bait, but I am wondering if there are some hardware options I should consider as well?

Thanks for any of your help...I appreciate any input.

pm me if you want to keep your secret lure secret...

Cheers

I have gone end of August several times. There will be TONS of Coho. How you fish depends if you are at OBMG, Langara or Wescoast resort? OBMG and Langara are motor mooching only with cut plug herring. No need to bring any hardware. Westcoast resort uses riggers and they would have all the gear you neeed.
As for where to fish, bait balls are always great but there are certain areas on certain tides that are best. (they will tell you up there as there are no big secret spots anymore). If you have already boated a few and want a chance at a HOG, park your butt in Bruin Bay or Friendly point. These are just south of the lodges and usually produce hog but far less action. You need to be patient here.

Have fun, Langara is an incredible place, and don't forget your camera!

Thanks for the input Stones. It is an incredible place for sure...

We will be fishing downriggers and would definitely be hunting for a HOG. Typically everyone fishes cutties, and we will definitely me fishing those the majority of the time. I'm just wondering if there is something else we should consider if we feel like experimenting a little...

Try an anchovy with a flasher. (a guide friend of mine does this up there and he slays em).
The other HOG hunting holes up there would be channal reef and Lacy Island.

Emailing my buddy who is a guide at Island Lodge. Says most consistent action this year has been off Andrews Point. Big ones pulled in there as well. But I agree with Stones. If you want to target a hog, sit in Bruin at the start of the flood.

Sorry to get off topic, but the guy on the right - was he your guide or a fishing buddy? 'Cause I'm 100% sure that's Mike M., a guy I guided with last year at QCL.
