I think that whole impending Northern Shelf Bioregion MPA implementation (called the NAP or Network Action Plan) will severely restrict the trawl fleet.

Great question, TMan. Probably not a quick, easy answer; but the instead the answers are in the details of prohibited/restricted activities of concern by each separate zoned area. And there are literally hundreds of zones. I'm just now reading through the 700-page long ATIP of the briefing note given to the minister last January 2023 on how to do this in phases - the NSB MSP "action plan".

I suspect the Trudeau Liberal government will want this implemented as their "legacy" before they get booted-out in the next election. And NSB implementation won't affect employment in the current naive Fisheries Minister's riding in la belle Gaspésie, neither. I wouldn't doubt this was a factor in their choosing her to be the next and last sacrificial lamb.

You should be worried and take a look. Some zones will be protected by FN for cultural values ...................... that will be interesting as many FN are not fans of the Rec, fishery.

And many if not most coastal FNs are substantially supported through the commercial fisheries as well. Unlike the cities where the ENGOs who promote MPAs as the only tool in the toolbox reside - there is only so many opportunities for economic development in the remote aboriginal and non-aboriginal communities on the coast, and commercial fishing is one of the key economic generators.
