Killing Ants in your house

Here's a great way to kill ants in your house without spraying poison or hiring an exterminator, we live in the bush and when ants would move in to the house we'd get an exterminator to spray. Until my wife got this tip from a friend.

get a ziploc bag throw a few cotton balls in there wet them a little with water ad sugar and borax. Mix them together so the borax and sugar soak into the cotton balls. place a cotton ball where you see ant activity, the ants will come and suck the sugar and bring it back to the queen, little do they know the borax is poisonous to them when enough builds up in the nest they all die, works within about 24 hours. So if the ants are coming into your house this spring, give this a trying before you call the exterminator works awesome!

Having a bit of an ant problem right now, we also live in th bush. Going to give this a try as we have tried everything else besides heavy chemicals. Will let you know how it works out for us.

Thanks for the tip!

I've had success with borax and corn syrup. It can be mixed into a paste and then will stick to vertical surfaces as well.

.20 ga shotgun if you dont care about the wall behind the ants!

(and its a LOT of fun!!! LOL)

And I forgot to add that it works great for yellowjacket nests too... but first tell the neighbours first what you are doing!!!

Man you crack me up! That would be a hoot! We use to shoot flies with .22 blanks, they would splatter against the wall and no damage.

Ya-- but with the yellowjackets you have to be ready to move in case you dont shred the nest on the first shot!!!! ( A learning experiance on my part!!! LOL)

Has anyone tried this for wasps?? I would love to hear it is sucessful..............
Before I hire an exterminator!

Tried this method with no luck! Putting it right in front of them and they want nothing to do with it. How are you mixing it? How much sugar? borax? Water?

Thanks, need to get rid of these bastards!

I've tried this before but instead of regular sugar go with icing sugar. Seems to work better for some reason.

If you want to go the poison route try out Ortho Ant-b-Gone Max, available at Home Depot, Ct, HH...

We had a ton of those big black buggers coming in through our ensuite. Layed down some little squares of wax paper (easier clean up) with a bunch of the stuff dripped on it whereever I saw them. Also dripped it on the pipes where they come through the wall under our sink. It was like old folks at a chinese buffet! DON'T KILL THEM WHEN THEY'RE EATING IT THOUGH (ants, not old folks; though don't kill them either)! Let them (ants) slurp it up and take it back to their nest. 2 days later...Middle earth battlefield with 100's of twitching corpses on our bathroom floor. I then layed waste to with my mighty slipper of doom just for a little vengance. They came back again briefly maybe 5 days later (last of the eggs hatching?) which we also fed the stuff to and now they've been vanquished for 3 years.

Oh,
And dad used the shotgun trick on a wasp nest or two. Light bird shot in a 12 Gauge. Vaporized it. One lone wasp returning to the nest buzzing around going "WTF"? Just watch your background! Mom was always scared he'd blow the gutters off the house!

I just asked my wife what she did and it was half cup icing sugar half cup borax quarter cup warm water, mix it into some cotton balls that you leave out for the ants to suck on. Should work for you, I didn't realize she was using icing sugar, good luck.

This!
Here he is right after working the laundry room, the worst room in the house for ants.

I came home from work one day and thought i had an eye problem (spots before my eyes) ants were everywhere in the house, the laundry room being the worst, so off to the the hardware store, picked up some ANT B GONE MAX. I went outside and sat in a chair on various places around the perimiter of the house to find out where they were getting in ( found 3 locations). I then baited the ant trails heavily with this stuff and within a week it looked as though they all packed up and left. this year was by far the worst for carpenter ants yet
