kicker recomendations

Thinking of getting a kicker for my boat and have narrowed it done to 2. The 8hp high thust and 9.9 hp highthrust Yahamas. Both have remote steering and power tilt with battery charging capability. Which do you think would be best suited for an 18' aluminum for trolling of the south island?
Thanks.

I've got an 8 HP HT for my 21 footer. Pushes it fine. Top speed is 5 mph full out, but, trolls all day on a few litres. Keeps all my electronics charged fine, gps, radar, radio, down riggers etc. Add the electric start if your not thinking about it.

Thanks about the electric start will look into it. Would you recommend the tiller throttle or the remote? I haven't decided oneither yet and am trying to weigh the pros and cons of each.

Good thread, i'm looking too I all ways thought 9.9ht my boat is 4500lb aprox loaded . 22 foot would 8ht work for me? or because it being discontinued should i just stay with the 9.9

I think the 8ht would work Kirk however that little extra power would be nice for your boat...And with 4500lbs loaded I would go with the 9.9HT...Seems like it would be the perfect kicker for your boat.

i have a 24 Striper , with a Yami T-8 High Thrust , electric Tilt / Start

, LOVE IT , SUPER QUIET , starts first turn every time , pushes my tub around with ease ,
i mostly fish WCVI in all kinds of rediculous conditions , including fast currents , NO PROBLEM , half throttle at most , 3mph effortlessly ,
my rigs got a few pounds on yours i think ,, no extra power needed unless your pulling a skier : )

you wont be dissapointed , a 9.9 was what i was shopping for , the dealer had a great smokin deal on the T-8 , so
i bought it , he assured me there was barely any difference , he had a T8 on the back of his larger Kingfisher...

FD does yours have the remote steering or tiller? Which would you prefer? I called around and Port Boat house actually gave me a quote for the 9.9 about $400 lower than the 8.

mines a Remote , i have a full rear station on my boat now , love it ,

why is it cheaper ??? , i dont have a 9.9 so i cant comment on it , im sure its a good motor ,
Im really happy with my T-8

Not sure about the price difference, caught me by surprise too. Everywhere else I have checked so far is the other way around. From the info that I gathered so far the only difference between the 9.9 and 8 is a longer connnecting rod thus giving it a little longer stroke and slightly higher displacment. Got this info from SG Power in Vic when I was talking to them this am. Other than that he was saying they are the exact same motor.

I installed a new 9.9 electric, power tilt, remote on a 24 ft Pursuit....love the little kicker and installation...runs like a sewing machine.
After running for a season I believe that the difference in performance with an 8 hp would be negligable.
Pay attention to getting the correct leg length for your installation.
