Keeping Spare Leader Under control

Hey guy's in my attempt to get organized this winter I have been thinking back to last season to remember the things that where a pain in butt or just didn't work right. One of the big things that I remember is I always made a mess or my leader spool. I would cut a piece of and put the spool down somewhere. Whenever I came back after getting my gear in the water the spool either despooled itself or fell somewhere making a big mess. It’s also a waste of money as I mostly ended up cutting it off.

I typically use 40lb maxima which comes in that small white spool. Do any of you have trick for keeping this spool under control? Is there a better leader line which comes in a dispenser?

Plano makes 2 styles of leader dispensers that hold standard 220yd rolls and the bigger 1.5" diameter rolls. I got one and I love it. Keeps things neat and tidy. I store my mono25-40lb on one side, and my flurocarbons on the other side.

problemo solvo.

cheers!

x2. pretty cheap solution

Bah!! they twist, break, disappear and sometimes I cant get that damn rubber band to secure the line and it unravels a couple rounds.

for 12 bucks the line spool box is money well spent in my opinion. All my leaders all in one place. And its pretty hard to misplace the case....

A strip of double sided velcro. The gardening and tool stuff comes on a small roll and perfectly fits inside the spool.

Drill two small holes in the plastic near the edge, careful not to nick the line.
Insert line-out then back in.

Those spool boxes are made for 1" think spools do they also work for the smaller maxima spools which are less than 1/2" wide?

I think its pretty much meant for the 1" spools...

organized yes, but where do you store the used or broken ones? Bilge pump? lol...That would be my concern...

Those line keeper dealies look pretty useful, but it doesn't stop the problem of "where the hell is that damn leader spool!?" which is what I think PartyMarty was originally trying to solve.

Maybe install a wire toilet paper roll holder in the boat, but instead of TP, you have your spools of leader on it?? haha. Just don't try to wipe with leader, it could get messy.

Get a short piece of plastic, about 5/16 - 3/8" wide by about 2 1/2" long. The end of a cable-tie works good.
Punch or drill 3 1/8" holes in it, set first hole 1/2 - 3/4" in from one end, second hole close to other end, and 3rd hole in the middle.
Get ahold of a piece of elastic shock cord about a foot long. (fabric store or kids/wives/girlfriends hair barette for holding a ponytail).
Insert cord through outside holes and tie knots to stop shock cord from being pulled back through holes.
You'll have to adjust lenth of shock/elastic cord to fit snugly around spool size.
Lead the line through the centre hole for dispensing.
Mount on spool with the longer tag end of the plastic strip on the downstream side of the line on the spool.
We all pull off too much line at times, so the tag gives you something to grab onto and pull around the spool to rewind the excess line.
Works well for dispensing leader.
Enjoy
