just seeing if anyone here kayak fishes?

I got OldTown Sportsman 120 PDL this Sping and its been a blast exploring local lakes and ocean with it on Vancouver Island.

Hoping to meet others to get some trips planned for the new year and to meet others to fish with!

Also curious about any cool mods you might have done!

Hi Clay: I am a kayak angler. If you are on Facebook, the best place to go for this is Vancouver Island Kayak Anglers page. Lots of good info there.

Hey, how ave you done on it? I've logged several hours on mine (Hobie Outback) on the Vancouver waterfront. Just hooked one monster who i got a look at.
I didn't want to bring out my islander because was worried I might lose it so went with an old diawa. The problem is the line was old too...

Other than that I have caught an array of non salmon, so none of the target species actually to the boat but I can't think of a more exciting way to play a fish...

I'd really like to get into this for this long cruises with the family. Nice to wake up early and slip away for a fish without having to wake up the sleeping beauties.

Ya it’s pretty fun. Mine is rigged with a pedal drive, rod holder and sounder. Super stable too.

Tsquare Im on the facebook group but hard to get people committed to get it out it seems, think I saw you at the Salt spring kayak event in the summer?

wishinIwasfishin im keen to meet up and fish for sure, let me know.

raincity if you want to test one in Victoria let me know

I've caught a lot of rockfish and lings this summer biggest was 15lbs from the kayak, was in Island fisherman magazine for that one!

Salmon I havent been able to get one in the kayak yet but hoping this will change with the winter springs!

Pedal Kayak is around 3k mark there super stable and I can stand up in it at 6'4 280lb no issues. there is tons of mods out there and its alot fun being in the kayak and fishing!

The mods are endless. I just went relatively bare bones with a chart / finder and a rod holder.
i actually haven’t given jigging a fair shot but that might be the way…

No, I went to Macktush and the fall event at Cheanuh But didn’t make Saltspring. I’m going to try jigging for winters out of Cheanuh this winter. I lost one and got one last week in my power boat so there are some around.

Just wanna say hi! I fish from a kayak as well. I've caught loads of rockfish and lings, but still no salmon in the kayak. I can't wait for that day!

I'm in Victoria. Here's nice shot of me and my lady heading out in Barkley Sound.

I use an old Scotty manual downrigger with a 5 or 7 lb ball in the summer when springs are higher in the water column. I’ve also started going old school and cutplugging herring with a 6 oz banana weight. I can’t let Art have all the fun doing that!(You can see the rigger in the pic I posted above.) I’ve given up trolling with the rigger in the winter as the fish are too deep. With my geezer legs it’s easier to jig than troll when the fish are down at 120 ft.
Rain City: careful now! You will get hooked on kayak fishing and find yourself ignoring your powerboat! I have fishing buddies who think I’m nuts to be pedalling myself around when I could be sitting in my pb. I send them this picture and if they don’t understand after that, well…...

Personally, the biggest fish I’ve ever landed was a +50 lb. Rooster fish - and from a kayak - thrill of a lifetime!
45 minutes of being towed around until the fish was played out.
I’ve had bigger fish landed in my power boat, but not by me. The big Rooster was my first one, and the next year I fished Roosters in a power boat, and although we caught quit a few, the fight just wasn’t the same.
So, be very careful what you wish for - kayak fishing May change your fishing life!
My 2 cents
