Jughead - A teaser head for Pilchards! What??

Jughead is a newly developed teaser head about to come on the market this spring, 2012. The action is unbelievable. ALL teaser heads roll the bait. Jughead swims the bait, literally. Underwater vids on YouTube show us towing a 10" Pilchard at 2.8 mph, 3.5 mph then 5 mph. There are 3 sizes to Jughead - Chovy, Herring and Pilchard. Search for the vids on YouTube at - GuideProInc. All critiques are welcome, please comment.

That looks pretty cool. Didn't see it catch any fish though lol (just kiddin).

I wonder how it works at faster speeds like 6-8 mph for albacore tuna fishing?

Looks like a plug head and holder for bait.

Interesting for sure.

In the video I was losing grip on the camera at 5 mph. We actually dragged that Pilchard up to 10 mph for several minutes. The bait came up without a mark on it, fully intact - no brine, thawed, right out of the pkg. I believe it's the natural action that the head produces that allows trolling a big bait fish at such high speeds. The rolling action that other heads produce is not a natural movement, and if you tow bait, you know that once you break that 3 mph threshold, your bait blows apart. I'm currently developing a head for a 3 to 4 lb bait fish, for the southern boys...

I like!!!! That looks pretty hot!

Do tell.....where does one "acquire" some of these Jugheads??

Congrats on the product. It looks good.

Any video on the action if a flasher is used, and how successful has it been in catching salmon with/without a flasher?

What retailers/ marketing channels will this be available through?

The drag may be too much to get any kind of "swirl" action out of a flasher. Testing showed the flasher hovering from left to right while towing Jughead with bait. A "dummy flasher" below the head works very well but you must leave no less than 15 feet from flasher to Jughead, as the field of vision is a large (erratic) "figure 8" approx 15+ feet in diameter with the Pilchard size head at 2.8 mph. The field of vision closes to about 10 feet with the Chovy head at 2.8 mph.
Jughead catches springs like crazy. Also, coho, hali's, lings... It was difficult to bring in my biggest fishes last summer and not be able to brag about the bait head ..."um, caught it on a green hootchie".
The thing is, I fish it hard so I get results. I'm very interested to see and hear others comments after using Jughead. As soon as it's available I will post it here first.

At the beginning of the "Jughead - Small" video, we are doing about 2 mph, then speed up to 2.8 after I quickly pull the camera out of the water for a sec to get a better grip ...right at the beginning of the vid.
The faster you troll the more frequent the barrel-rolls and the side to side movement enhances.

Personally, I see no reason to stuff a cut-plug into a teaser head but, I would assume that taking the head off would change the weight displacement and also, I would think the length difference would give a more "floppy" roll as well ...never been there, just saying.
...Having said that, if you're talking about the cut-plug versus a teaser head, I think the cut-plug will have a bit more "travel" giving it a bit larger field of vision. It all depends on the cut, which in itself, commits your bait to a particular roll. Whereas a teaser head can be tweeked, drilled, heated then bent, wires added, etc., etc. giving a wider range of options with your bait action, whether you're covering ground quickly, fishing rock piles, trolling the shoreline, adjusting to boat speed, tide currents...

Cool looking action and Yes it'll work well for Billfish/Tuna and all pelagics.

One old idea that came to mind right away is slipping a hootchie over the bait-that should really gets some attention.

i like hoe in the medium one that it was rolling and doing that shutter at the same time when and where are they going to be on the market, imagine next to kelp bed for lings

if your handy you could try to cut one of your old plugs into a head and rig it up. the action looks good, to me anyway.

Looks Great...I willl fish that for sure.
love to roll my bait and pretty much stick to what I llike and what I know works (for me) and don't normally go for the new fangled lures and all but this looks pretty hot as Pip said.
I will definetly give er a go. Love to fish big pilchard!

cheers,

Yes I agree. Used to do that way back when with Chovies. A buddy of mine is chompin' at the bit to drag skirts and all kinds o' shyte with Jughead. He'll have holes drilled all over the heads and all kinds of crap hanging out them in no time.

How do you rig the hook(s) on those? Just let her swing free like on strip?

What hook does it take size-wise?

And..........trolled off 40lb test or do you have to de-size the line like on an Apex for example to get the action?

Heya Seafever. I`ve tried a few diff configs with the hooks. Trebles, Siwash, J-Hooks...You want your hook to hang free like a plug, it acts like a rudder. You can position the hook anywhere along the bait by lengthening the distance from Jughead with beads, chain swivel, or stuff a toothpick in the line hole. As with all other teaser heads ...experiment. Jughead does some amazing moves when you start to fart around with it.
On the Chovy size I was using a 2/0 Siwash, Herring - 4/0 Siwash, Pilchard - 7/0 Siwash.
I never troll with less than 40 lb Maxima leader. Don't care what I'm dragging. If it doesn't work with 40 lb test, I prob won't drag it ...that's just me tho. Hope this answers it for ya

Ok. Who is going to carry them around SCVI. When do you anticipate they will be available?
