Regular (Competitive) Fishery

On the October 3, 2005 fishery, a total of 97 vessels participated in the
competitive fishery. Catches were extremely variable during this fishery. An
estimate of 250,000 chum were caught in this fishery for an average of 2,596
chum per vessel. The next scheduled opening for the competitive fishery is
Monday October 24, 2005.

Demonstration Fishery

Open 00:01 hours October 6, 2005 and will run until 23:59 hours October 21,
2005. A total of 39 vessels will participate in this fishery by Experimental
Licence. Based on catches from the competitive fishery the allocation per
vessel is 4,672 chum. Licensee's participating in this fishery are reminded
that they must call Sandy Buker at (604) 684-4493 with the dates and areas they
intend to fish 72 hours prior to leaving harbour. They must also notify Sandy
Buker 24 hours prior to off loading with the time and location of the off load.

The next chum update will be Friday afternoon October 14, 2005.
 
Maybe the recreational lobby, should request a non participation of the commercial fishery when the Browns Bay derby is on? Just dreaming I guess! This is starting to look like one of the better rec fisheries in this area we have left.In any case, I wish all you doggers out there a good and safe fun time. Wish I could join you, but I'm limited to a twelve foot Lund and would be a little concerned about the run across the narrows. Eman
 
I called and asked them about the derby he told me that they request a closure and they usally get it.
