Islander Reels - Colour and Reg Handles Vs Paddle

Fishing Guide

Cheers All,

Adding to my collection of Islander Reels and am ordering 4 new MR3

What colour do you prefer/why: Gold/Blue/Black....

What handle style do you prefer/why: regular derlin or paddle handles....

*May be selling 4 of my Islander FR4's for a GREAT price....

I like the gold ones myself (a classic/classy colour IMO). I have the guide model that does not have the holes drilled in the back. The lack of these holes means less water gets in to wash away/dilute the reel grease and they need less frequent maintenance. I have also switched my handles to the paddle style which I like much better (easier to hang onto when your hands are wet and your are reeling in fast). That's my 2 bits.

I like the gold; it's the classic look. Only have one, on a spey rod. It has a round wooden handle which has occasionally swelled up in the rain and got stuck -quick fix with the leatherman. No experience with the paddle handles, but they sound more ergonomic.

If I were to get a coloured one I'd get pink cuz I like pink, even if it is girly. (I'm not too concerned about the opinion of others on such trivial matters, especially when fishing. Apparently Pippen agrees???) The blue one looks cool too. But personally find the black and the steel ones a little boring.

I don't know if they make them, but you could go red and green for port and starboard?

Track down some of the reds ;)

Well I hate to burst your bubble but I don't personally give a damn what colour the reel is as long as it works & catches fish.
I use a Shimano Moocher Plus 4000GT, the wife uses an old Daiwa Graphite DC375 and for backup we have two old S & A Steelite reels from the late 60's or early 70's and even those have caught fish and got them to the boat (drag nut went out on the Daiwa, Mike's in Abbotsford had one for $3.95)

Let me know where this thread goes, as to what colour is the winner, I'll paint mine the same colour

I did a bit of digging, wanted to order a pair of MR2 anodized in green.... was informed by islander that this is possible but would have to wait until they were doing a run of fly reels in green (understandable) and would have a premium of up to $125/per if there wasnt sufficient number to make it worth their while. I know they are backlogged as it is right now, but I would still like to get them in green.... anyone else interested ? thinking this would be a "sometime down the road" thing.

Gold, that's all I got on my boat...wife wanted pink, told her the best I could do is pink cannon balls.

what about pink?,lol, eh there pipster...holmes*

Amen holmes!! Gonna be pulling the trigger on 2 pinky's this coming week! Now if I can just convince Rick to let me get a pink BCFR sweatshirt....I'll be "golden"!!!

I like the pink....just cuz I don't take myself too seriously....and if you see a guy from a distance wearing a pink shirt....with 2 pink Islanders out the back...with his lovely blond girlfriend with him....you don't need to read the name on the boat; you'll know it's me!

pink is gay. that is all

So is "seafoam" green....but they sure did plaster it all over a lot of boats!! Hahaha. :p

Only gay men don't like the pink........LOL

True that!!

I love the pink! However pink fishing gear is a bit light in the loafers!

What about "squirts" for sockeye???? ;)
