I caught a fish today that I have never caught before. Took a picture and released it. Is this a Pacific Cod?

No, not a Pacific cod. I’m pretty sure you caught a Walleye Pollock. Where were you fishing? We caught a few out of Nanaimo last week.

I fish off Hornby Island. Never seen one of these caught. Is there a size limit? I don't see anything in the regs about Pollock.

Yes, pollock, same fish that you’ll get at Mickey D’s if you order a fish fillet sandwich. Lots of them caught as by-catch in the hake fishery

I sell large quantities to the halibut and blackcod fleet....they love them for bait

Seems like the ones in the SOG are all juveniles. Great for making fish stock or putting a live one on a hook - ling cod candy!
