Those little bugs are really something. On the commercial gear, if we can't get get a string back for some reason, like bad weather, almost every fish on the line will be stripped clean. Really nothing of value will be left. A 150# fish will be wasted in a few hours. This always sort of creeps me out. Anyway, interesting read.

sand fleas = floating tennis shoes!! haven't been any for awhile :)

didn't U.B.C do a test on a sunken pig to see how long it lasted on the ocean floor? i think threre were some pics on this site about it awhile back sand fleas and shrimp ate it up very fast.

RUM chum.

I used to unload commercial caught halibut in Ucluelet. I've seen the occasional fish that was saved just in time, ie. some cosmetic damage but the meat still intact. Talk about literally coming apart at the seams! All around where the fins joined the body were gnawed out!

Yea that link was on here before. Think it was like 32 days till nothing left of ol' Babe.

We had a party on Mackenzie(sp) beach outside of Tofino a few years ago before our wedding. Hauled a bunch of bbq's down and did up some oysters and scallops on the half shell. Everyone ate and tossed the shells about.

Next morning we are down there chilling out and the only thing that topped watching the people gawk and speculate as to the origin of the shells - was watching them stop in the warm tidepools to soak their feet and getting nuked by those little bastards! Running and jumping and squeeling!! We made a day of it!

Gimee the gaff!!!
