I'm paying about $575/year for boat insurance which seems a little high, especially since it's on a trailer for 6mo of the year. That includes 30K in coverage for hull, motors and gear. I was going to check around to see if there is anyone with lower rates. Our company uses PM (Pacific Marine Underwriting Managers Ltd) and some of the others use AXA Pacific - any ideas? We're probably stuck with what we're paying. Does anyone have a good insurance company they can recommend?

I live in Washington and just bought a new boat. I am paying 324 a year for 60K coverage. Is thre a chance you can insure it with an agent in Washington?

i pay about 575 for 30k as well , 25 mile off shore coverage as well. and full gear coverage rods reels ect ect

Coastal Community Insurance

48 grand coverage
500 deductible
2,000 personal effects
1,000,000 protection and indemnity
3,000 for the trailer

Total 526.00

Thanks for the info guys...looks like my insurance costs are similar to everyone else (except for our south-of-the-border friends). I might try Coastal Community Insurance to see if I can save a few bucks. Feels like I'm shelling out a LOT of dough for very few fish so far this year. Works out to about $356/lb. The wife is really impressed. ;)

This topic came up about 4 months ago I would love to pay what you have too im over triple that price so you guys have it alot easier but its also your choice to not even have insurance, but look on the bright side so you pay a nominal fee of 575 bucks and you blow up a 15,000 engine and it costs you a 500 detuctiable to get a new one.
whip di do you still are better off dont you think!!!!!!!
If you think its too expensive sell your boat spend a grand every year go get a charter in renny and get your limit for so that it works out cheaper per LB !!!!!!!!!!!

Remember fishing is supposed to be fun if you start putting a dollar figure on every thing you do youll get very angry bet you dont think twice when your wives spend 500 dollars on clothes for herself as long as SHES happy thats why we go fishing to get away from them LOL LOL

Wolf, I've never heard of insurance for when your motor packs it in? Given that my outboard is a 1979 merc, I could use some of that kind of insurance!

Yes, it's not good idea to calulate the cost of fishing: my last wife tried that. [}:)] So I know of at least one thing that costs way more than fishing ...for nowhere near as much fun. But perhaps it's also unwise to calculate the per-pound cost of a wife. :D

Of course a charter boat, such as Blue Wolf, would have to pay a lot more. Anyway, I wasn't complaining wolfy, I was just checking that my insurance company was on par with the rest. 'And the per pound cost of fishing is a fun way to chuckle at the money we spend. You have the luxury of writing off purchases as a business expense but we are out there for pleasure, so it's not exactly a tax write-off. Sure, I try to cut a few corners with costs where possible and why not, it just makes good sense. ;)

Re: price of fishing

I once saw a quote maybe on this forum

" My biggest fear is that one day my wife will sell all of my fishing gear for what I TOLD HER I paid for it. "
LOL!!!!!!!!

Red you look closely under mechanical in your insurance an engine is covered but it has to be like a bag or some eel grass that has gotten into it or some thing like hittig a log which breaks a crank and pooches an engine thats where a good mechanic will find fault.

Yammy as a charter operator we dont get to write off as much as you guys think, we have so many expesives to try and cover and we need a boat survey done every couple of years so theres even more money out and we still have to PUT the money out and trust me we dont get $1000 of dollars back like they used to in the good ol days.

And I totally agree with you tring to cut expenses especially with fuel costs so you are bang on there!!!!

Good luck Wolf

fishing 4 a living lol must be a hard life eh???making money doing what ya love and paying a little extra 4 doing it lol thats funny [:o)]no offence. tight lines
