Insulating a fishing cabin

We've got a cabin in Port Alberni inlet that we want to insulate the floor of. Does anyone know what products would be best so insects/animals don't nest in it? The floor is over water but above HHW. Suggestions?

If you are over water your probably going to have to go with ridged styrafoam sheets. It comes in a variety of R factors and widths so depending on the spacing of your floor joists you can fit them from the underside with a construction adhessive rated for wood/foam (make sure you get the right adhessive as the normal stuff just melts the foam). Ants don't seem to like the stuff but otters, mice and rats will tunnel in it and it does degrade over time when exposed to light. This way though insullation is inspectable for signs of infestation or degradation.

Without putting new stringers down inside on top of your existing floor and insullating between those then resheathing the above is likely to be your most cost effective simple solution. Spray foam is pretty expensive, also degrades in light and would be harder to fix if required.

So where do you leave the key? :D
