hi everyone,
hoping someone can help provide some info on either these 2 docks.
what does the tide height have to be to safely dock at either ambleside or dunderave?

is one better than the other?

i have a 92 marlin, 18' draft

Ripper,

Based on my experience launching a 14 foot Lund at Ambleside, I think you would want at least and 8 to 10 foot tidal height. For me with a light boat, its no probs at all. But with a bigger boat and deeper draft, your truck would end up in the sand beyond the reach of the concrete ramp at lower tides. Could get stuck and boat could bottom out.

Just my $0.02.

ripper.....are you wanting to dock or launch?

There is no launch at Dundarave anymore, only Ambleside.

If I recall correctly you aren't allowed to tie up at Dundarave....just drop off/pick up as their small dock at the end of the pier is reserved for "rescue craft" only.

As for the Ambleside Pier....if looking to dock there you should be fine to get in there in your boat no problem unless by chance it is a super low tide. I think there is decent water at the little dock right there and with what your boat draws you should be okay. Not sure if you can stay tied up there with your boat unattended for very long if you even can at all; it may just be drop off/pick up.

thanks for the info and for responding.
i meant that i just wanted to use the dock. we moor at thunderbird, but often need to pick my wife up in west van to save time due to kids school schedules.
i went by dundarave today around low tide (2.8m) and there was a lot of water there, guessing 5-6 feet.
the last time i tried picking up at the ambleside dock, around a 3m tide, there was only 2ft of water at the dock. freaked me out a little as i was expecting more.
