anyone have some advice for fishing halibut in shore at carmanah to nitinat area....i am familiar with some well known spots but still not too sure what to look for this time of year...

thanks

in shore in reny this time of year they can be any where from the well known spots to the mud flats although the carmanah spots are usualy the most consistant.

Last year rite out from nit nat in the flats was very consistant in no particular spot 180-200 was loaded.

I've been told that the larger mature female halibut come to relatively shallow waters to spawn
I've caught one at Renfrew, off Camper Creek, while fishing for lings. Look for the humps generally, but quite a few have been taken by accident while fishing for salmon. I've seen them caught all over the place from Owen Point all the way to Carmanah. Right in to 70 feet of water. Just remember the RCA at Bonilla.

You might be mislead there, what i understand is they go down off the continental shelf to spawn. I think they just move inshore to feed.

Now why we have inshore closures in January if they spawn in deep water im not sure.

To preserve commercial catches - The closure had nothing to do with conservation... ZIP, NADDA, ZILCH.
